RMS loudness via Goldwave is 0.1896 for Victim of Changes for both.

They both also have the glitch I mentioned previously in Island of Domination at 3:24. Sounds like the tape slowed down during mastering or something. The Koch didn't have this, and none of the vinyl versions I have have this either. fwiw.

My only CD version of this is the Castle Communications "The Collection" CD two-fer of Rock-a-Rolla and Sad Wings. It's not bad, but not great, either.

I have the 2002 Victor one. I don't like how it sounds with RS-1 headphone and a Govibe V 5 amp. It is loud, but not like Century Media loud or anything. It sounded pretty good with SR-60s. Generally, I'm finding that remastered cds sound like hell with high-end stuff. The RS-1s are about the only high-end thing I own and now I don't want to hear compressed music ever again. Not that I was exactly thrilled with it before.

    Ain't that the truth :righton:

But to get even better (to my taste) sound out of your Grados you really should consider changing your stock bowls to "Todd's Flat Pads"

Funny this thread should pop up! I have the Attic release too (just picked it up last week) and I think it sounds great, too! :)

  10. I just got the Line CD release from audiospirit. It has a warm and natural sound, not compressed, but it is slightly on the muddy side. Still, very enjoyable, and you can really turn it up loud.

I would love to hear some short samples from some other recommended CD versions for comparison, if someone could eb so nice to post some short clips, I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks.

  11. P.S.:

Some of the guitar riffs sound exactly like they do on Thin Lizzy's Chinatown recording (I mean the sound of the guitar, not the riff itself). Someone else noticed this before?

The EQ on the Koch vs Repertoire is quite different -- less low bass, more upper bass (a hump centered on 300 Hz) and less treble than on the Koch . The Koch also has less dynamic range.

The KOCH is just too damned loud !!

The Attic one is the best i've heard. Too me it sounds like a pretty good digital representation of what my UK Gull LP sounds like.

I agree that this album is probably the best thing Priest ever did !!

I would recommened the Canadian Attic Records edition. ACD 1157.

It doesn't have a bar code either :) barcodes are an eyesore !
