Went to pick up the Technics SL-1650 and auto function did not work. So, bought a JVC QL-A5 TT. What do you know about this TT? And, recommended cartridge? I do not know what mass the tone arm is rated.

I know you won't find much info about that JVC, beyond Vinyl Engine. I tried to check on it, when a Topekan had one on CL & ebay for > year. I believe there may be silver & black models.

It looks like a medium mass arm like my Jelco or SME that should pair with most carts available today. I can't say how well it performs but it is a 'mass market' TT that should perform adequately.

Looks like a nice TT, very good specs. No vta though, would be deal breaker for me.

Never mind- tone arm height adjustment is VTA.

The TT has tone arm height adjustment.

    Saw one of these
    JVC QL-A5 TURNTABLE
    for sale
and was wondering how yours turned out? Are you happy with it? Currently have a Dual 1228 and a Dual 1019 (out of service). Using the 1228 but needs the automatic features adjusted. Fixing these would run $200-$300 each for sure. That's why I'm considering the JVC. Thanks

I liked MY QL-A5, but it is only a $150 TT. It sounds better than $150, for sure. I would not put money in it. For $350 you can get a Luxman PD272 that is a better TT. So, I would pass on it.
