I might tune in but to be honest it feels like the well has run dry. I can't imagine what Burns can show me that I haven't already seen on multiple PBS documentaries.

Same here. No doubt Burns is the premier documentarian of our generation. But the same, staid "talking heads" format is worn out. Hopefully, they will have lots of old footage to draw from . . .

The one I'm holding out for is a doc by Burns on the most powerful political dynasties of our lifetime, the Bush and Clinton families. I guess he wouldn't do it unless they were all in history's rear view mirror... But I think it would be really interesting.

I am wondering if one of the talking heads will be Edmund Morris, who wrote a 3 volume bio of TR. He doesn't seem to be the type of author Burns would interview, but it will be interesting to see if he does.

It's a bit strange now to hear Eli Wallach as one of the narrators. :(

I enjoyed the first segment, but I will say the format is getting a little stale.

I agree, however it is his personal distinctive style which, unfortunately, has been copied to death. Apple's iMovie/Final Cut Pro Ken Burn's effect does not help. I do have to say Ken provides probably the most historical and accurate (from what i see anyway) picture compared to most documentaries.

Watched the first episode last night, and will probably suffer through the entire series. It beats the hell out of sitcoms and similar excreta.......

Even if it's been seen before, I got shivers as they zoomed into the picture of Teddy and his brother as young boys in the window of their mansion watching Lincoln's funeral procession go by. That's the kind of thing Burns does so well, and ff the content is as good as last night the format doesn't bother me.

I DVR'd it. Saw the first 10 min before switching over to the Sunday Night Game. Figure I'll watch this with dinner tonight then settle in for the Monday Night Game.

Not really sure how you can stretch this into 14 hours worth of compelling material, but my wife seems interested so I'll give it a shot.

    Interesting.

I think I heard Peter Coyote when I was stopping by flicking channels and wondering why I never see him in front of the camera anymore.

Ken Burns is the master documentarian of things American. I was not disappointed in this latest effort. Well produced, written & researched. With just the right balance of historical photos & talking heads. Peter Coyote's measured and familiar narration of Burn's documentaries provides continuity. I'll look forward to the rest of this series.
