Here's also hoping they keep it 'silly-funny'! I don't want Hit-Girl to have a love interest. or any crap like that!

Will be hard to top the first one.
The element of surprise is gone.
Godfather 2 was the exception in sequels.

the first KA is so ingrained in my prefrontal cortex
    don't think the new version

Thanks Vidiot - I think Roger Ebert totally missed the mark on the first one which I just finished watching, that was a lot of fun, a fresh spin on the whole super hero genre. Can't wait for II.

Ugh, KICK AZZ 2 was mediocre. The original is one of my dark horse favorites, but the sequel wants to go in ten different directions at once -- several genre parodies within an action flick that is itself already a parody -- without fully investing the screen time necessary for any of these threads to make an impact. It reminded me of "normal" big-budget superhero sequels, which are likewise bloated and sketchy. Let's see, a little FIGHT CLUB here, a little CARRIE there, an extra helping of MEAN GIRLS . . .

One of the bigger problems is that several of the actors/actresses were clearly too old to still be playing high school kids. Only Moretz looked the part. And as violent as both films were, the second installment seemed more cartoonish than the original, which did feature gunplay. The sequel was one of those action films that occurs in a parallel universe where very violent people have made some sort of off-camera pact to not use guns.

The shock and awe of the original was, of course, unrepeatable, so perhaps the sequel was a no-win proposition, like making THE SEVENTH SENSE. This felt like a compilation of fan fictions or proposed television series plotlines cobbled together and blasted through in ninety minutes. In short, the original had some emotional weight to the pyrotechnics, due to the viewer's identification with the hapless Kick Ass and the bond between Big Daddy and Hit Girl, while the sequel felt pro-forma and meaningless.

As a follow up it was frickin awful.Perhaps better to have dropped Kick A 2 and work on Hit Girl movie instead. But i think even she was past her sell by date. Mother Russia was the only new character that was interesting in the sequel.

Eh, I only saw it recently too and I thought it was alright. It's nothing great, but I was expecting a real turd based on most of the reviews (even from people who liked the first one) and instead I found it pretty enjoyable.

Yeah, I think you bring up some good points. I saw the second film but didn't much care for it, certainly not as much as I enjoyed the first one.

K-A 2 is an example of how important a good Director is to a film, and how much is lost when another Director takes over a semi-franchise.

My only complaints on 2 are Hit Girl grew up(can't be helped), his girlfriend was a nozzle, and the "shaky cam" was way annoying. Other than that it was fun, and that's all I wanted. The first BluRay I bought.

Sadly, like the new "X-Men", it's missing the 'kick-a$$' direction of Matthew Vaughn.
