I don't like the artwork very much. Reminds me a bit of the old Beatles Capitol boxsets. Hopefully the content is what I really care for ! :)

this cover art is awful in my opinion, cheap and quickly assembled
those songs titles underneath make it look like a cheapo compilation
Picture Book boxset cover art was the thing

  8. yeah its a bit cheesy

    I think the art's okay. Heck, it's not like the Kinks have a proud tradition of stunningly beautiful album artwork to uphold anyway - I'd say this sleeve is better looking than a majority of their original LPs;

Being a proud owner of the monobox, the picture book box set and lot s of their albums in assorted forms I definively will pass on this one. Don t give a s- t if I miss some track compared to having to pay big money just to get truckloads of duplication. Somehow I have sobered concerning thrse things

I do it looks more 1960s , which is the period we are talking about.

Neither of their original lps suffered this cheap photoshop treatment... It's not that important, it's just too bad that the artwork doesn't match the musical/audio quality.

Don t think photoshop existed in the sixties so of course the original artworks didn t get that treatment. But in all honesty- the things to remember the Kinks for is not to be found in the often rather cheap original artworks

Exactly! My first thought was that this image is actually for a different compilation. I'm looking forward to more information about how this set is going to be presented.

    Same here!

I don't get it. Why list a bunch of song titles in a large boxset? It doesn't really make any sense.

What other box cover can anyone recall where that is done?

Is there any chance it's not the "final" artwork?

    Thanks for this new info!

Don't forget these are both new transfers/masterings even compared to all those releases. So, while I can't argue that there's not lot of "duplication" as far as the songs themselves, there's technically 0% duplication in the sound of those same songs.

One's definition of "big money" is also relative. They're still pricing it at $66 on US Amazon (which seems a pretty fair price for 5 cd's and a 7")...

I agree, except for the small run they had from '...Kontroversy' to 'Something Else...'.

I think that Muswell Hillbillies is a nice concept, it fits in the time period. Schoolboys was a'disgrace'. Misfits was a bit creative (the picture disk edition more so :) ); Sleepwalker, Low Budget, The Preservation Acts were OK. I think that Everybody's in Showbiz could have used a better picture (of the group, preferably) in the same setting. The last bunch (Think Visual , etc.) seem like they picked them out of a catalog.

I asked Andrew Sandoval if "Misty Water" would be mono or stereo via Facebook. His reply: "Misty Water is an unissued stereo mix."
