I'm pretty good with accepting cover art for what it is. But this box looks UGLY.
    Price is nice, though...

It will become the new Kinks reference, after the Ugly Pink cd, the Ugly Orange boxset

According to musictap.net, this might not be the definitive artwork :
"Don’t bet on the cover shown here. Chances are that it will be getting a makeover. (It’s likely a placeholder image.)"

And the ad on LegacyRegording France shows no artwork.

Hmm. When the article on Musictap first went up, it didn't have the cover art, just a black and white Kinks logo. The disclaimer was originally meant for that image. The cover art that now appears in the article is being used by Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk. Still, it might not be the final artwork or it could be an image that is covered by a slipcase or just the image on a slipcase or... anyway, we'll see.

But famously the F2F art was out of Ray's control - he wanted a black cover, similar to the artwork on the 1970 UK compilation.

Perhaps Ray Davies and Dave Davies should take baby steps. If they're planning to record together again, I would suggest doing what The Flamin' Groovies did two years ago. Singer Chris Wilson invited the other members of the Groovies to perform as guest artists on his latest solo album, which eventually led to their reformation and touring.

Dave says that is the finished cover. So I expect Ray will now change it.

I just cancelled my amazon.com order and ordered it from amazon.co.uk instead. With shipping, the order came to £37.20 which converts to $60.60 using today's exchange rate. That is cheaper than ordering from amazon.com and it says it will arrive between 3 November and 14 November. Based on my previous experiences pre-ordering CDs from the UK site, I expect to receive it closer to the release date of 3 November. In any case I expect to fully experience the entire package before the US release date of 18 November.

Lordy. Just realised this box has a release date in the same week as the Complete Basement Tapes and the two McCartney Archive releases.

Why can't everyone be better at spacing things out?

Edit: oh wait, only in the UK. The US is a couple of weeks later. Hurrah!

Traditionally this is the time of year that these releases are pushed out. Stocking up for the Christmas gift giving.

Oh, I know. But couldn't they separate them a little?

Up from 37.30 GBP to 49.22 GBP in the span of 8 hours!

Thanks for the tip while it lasted (which was not long)...

Or we can separate them ourselves by not insisting we have them on release day.
Save a few things to ask Santa about.

The newest articles about the box set show the cover art as not having the song titles and it looks like the background may have some sort of texture or shininess to it.

Or selfish hoarding by audiophiles so that there's no money left for Christmas.
