I asked this about Chicago, and it went well. I was persuaded to go beyond what I stopped at and am grateful. Thanks to others and thoughtful posts I heard some good/great music I normally wouldn't.
So my question is about KISS. Currently I stop at Lick it Up. I heard negative things about Animalize, and haven't thought about anything after.

I heard Revenge and Unplugged are good. But would like to hear what you have to say.

I stopped at Dynasty. I leap frog to Creatures then pop back in for Revenge and Unplugged. The last two are very good. Unplugged is great fun, but Kiss really started to slide by Love Gun.

As far as albums I actually listen to, it's probably Love Gun. But, I did hear Dynasty, The Elder, and Unmasked....all terrible.

There's decent stuff on every album (other than perhaps Crazy Nights). I like Animalize. And if you like Lick It Up, I think you'd like it too.

KISS, Hotter Than Hell, The Elder, Creatures, Lick It Up, Animalize, Revenge, and Carnival are my favourites.

    Monster. I love every album.

Except Psycho Circus (though I strongly enjoy about half the tracks on it)

Carnival? Huh. I've steered clear from the album, but this post give me enough reason to check it out.

It's very much in the alt. metal/grunge style that was popular at the time, but the musicianship is perhaps their strongest ever. Lots of odd time signatures and longer songs.

Lick It Up, although there are still some good songs up to and including Revenge. After that I lose interest.

Yes forgot about that one. Kiss simply dumped it out there as they were getting the reunion ball rolling. It never saw much action but I did grab that on CD upon release.

The last really good Kiss album is "Revenge", IMO.

It's KISS's stab at trying to be a little bit too much Alice In Chains, but it's still an excellent album for the most part. Kulick shines on it. Gene's songs are very dark. :)

    Love it.

Well, I have all their Casablanca releases* (apart from Double Platinum but then that's a compilation) so Creatures of the Night is where I stop.

*The 97 remasters, if you care

I never really stopped. I just like some albums more than others.

    Hotter Than Hell
    Dressed To Kill
    Ace Frehley
    The Elder
    Creatures
    Revenge
    Unplugged
    Carnival of Souls

These are the ones I probably spin then most.

For studio albums Dynasty. I used to have Elder, Creatures and Lick It Up, I got rid of them and don't miss them. Only album past that I listen to is Unplugged, which I find essential.

I like Revenge, Unplugged, & Carnival of Souls.

Psycho Circus sucked, never tried Alive IV, Sonic Boom was surprisingly good, and Monster was laughably horrible.

So basically, Carnival of Souls and before is "pick and choose". Sonic Boom is the only release of the past 20 years that's worth even trying.

    If that helps.

Alive Ii was the last one I cared about. Bought Psycho Circus when it came out, but wasn't wild about it.

Alive III is also worth a mention. I played that plenty when it came out. It has a solid version of "Watching You" on there too.

I like parts of Psycho Circus (the title track, Within, We Are One), but the advertising of the album as the original 4, when it wasn't, turns me off.

Creatures of the Night is good but don't play it often. I've heard Lick it Up which is OK but would never buy it. So I guess for me it's Unmasked which I like a lot.

Dressed to Kill. That's the last one where they feel like a band rather than a product.

I own most of them, but Lick It Up is the last album that I consider to be any good. Dynasty is really my cut off. I really don't listen to anything beyond that one.
