I think this is my favorite 1969 photo of them; I've always loved this shot. I wish I could find a glossy copy suitable for framing.

I’m loving all the posts but I still have questions!

    1. How is it known for certain that this is the last photo of the session.

    2. Has the photo ever been seen in color or in high quality B&W?

Also, who took the photo? Ethan Russell, Monte Fresco, Mal Evans? Whoever it was do they realize that they took the last photo of The Beatles? Have they ever spoke specifically about it?

    1. When they took the picture George Harrison said “Right, this is our last photo!”
    2. Colour wasn’t invented until the 1970s.
    3. All three of them took it at once.

I know what you mean. I remember being disturbed by the Hey Jude album cover when first released (though he looks better on the back). He looked so pale and emaciated. And what's the deal with that big belt? Reminds me of Batman's utility belt.

That was obvious upon release of Double Fantasy. He's even remarked on it. The Plastic Ono Band album was dark and heavy, and the ominous bell matched its mood, whereas on Double Fantasy it begins with light and airy chimes, as if to say "life is good again."

Yeah, I assumed it was intentional but that it was unknowingly his last lifetime solo album was my main point.

I thought it was established that George Harrison died at a property owned by Paul McCartney. Even though this was denied in 2001 hasn't this more or less been confirmed since?

So sad. I remember getting the reissue of that in 1982 and it seemed to close on a cliffhanger. There was no talk of a split just that the book was no longer a relevant medium to reporting about them :(

Those are good questions. I'd like to hear the real answers, too!

There was colour in 1967 but white became the new colour the next year.

I'm pretty certain the main question was correctly answered some time ago. It's interesting to hear the variants on this question as to when various combinations of the Beatles met up. I'm happy with the answer that the first photo of all four Beatles was taken on 22nd August 1962 and the last was on 22nd August 1969. Seems to me highly likely to be correct.

Was John addicted to heroine at the time or going cold turkey? That might explain his appearance.

It was possibly taken by Linda. She was definitely there in the room at the time.
