New series starts this week & a 25th Anniversary show was broadcast on Saturday night. Purpose of the thread has anyone discovered anyone by watching this show ? Personally there's been quite a few over the years incl. Coldplay, Future Islands & KT Tunstall but many others too! BTW, for Oasis fans Liam Gallagher is on the first show of the new series .
How do you get an invite for these type of studio shows , do you just write to the Beeb? I was in the audience when Asia's concert was filmed at Granada's TV studio in Nottingham. That was after I saw an advert in the Nottingham post !
BUY tickets ?? Surely that's against the BBC rules....unless of course as I suspect it's all owned by Jools Holland these days. I was at the Millenium Show...that was certainly free.
I have never watched an episode and NOT discovered someone new... I therefore try not to watch it too often, it gets expensive.
I always try to catch it, just in case there is something good on. There hardly ever is though and it's usually such a dull and dreary show. There is something about that studio set-up, the sound, I dunno, which makes just about every artist fall flat. Zero excitement in the air.
Just watching BBC's "Sounds Like Friday Night" music show which is in the spirit of Ready Staedy Go and The Tube. It's more pop orientated but the format is much more fun than Jool's drab, sterile approach. However, at 30 minutes, it's too short.
Nobody exiting to appear yet though, no new bands get showcased like Jools show so unlikely to discover new talent!
He's back tonight with Tower Of Power and Shame on the list: Later Live - with Jools Holland - S52 - Episode 1
Just to say ... I was in the audience for this... (eternal thanks to Meredith in the fanclub office for my ticket)
I've discovered a number of songs I really enjoy and purchased but I struggle to think of an act I've got into more deeply. Perhaps one will come to me...
I enjoyed the Jools Holland show on Saturday night and I think the new setting in the Alexandra Palace is a vast improvement in atmosphere. I thought this new act was pretty good - Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul:
