I watched The Help on BD last night. I admired the film but it's take on civil rights was not a revelation for me. I remember the racial strife of the 60's and beyond all too well. It's a fine film but won't have much repeatability for me. I ordered it because my mom wanted to see it. I could of waited till it hit HBO. I'd recommend this film most highly to the younger set.

    I find Tilda Swinton fascinating

Sometimes she seems absolutely beautiful, yet she can also look severe and somewhat creepy/cruel, and I mean that in a good way despite how it sounds.

Either way, I'm a big fan.

Just saw her (looked more like a CG representation of her) in Prince Caspian this past weekend.

Not on par with the three Marvel films from this year, but it's goofy fun if in the right mood.

You summed that one up nicely, Rachael. Maybe it could bring some sort of insight to someone who has no clue about that era, but nothing special to someone who remembers those times.

Watched Larry Crowne on Blu. Not as good as it could have been. Most of the characters are drawn to broad to make any serious points about the situation he finds himself in, and the romantic comedy part isn't very romantic or funny.

Do ya feel as dated as me now?

I watched a Blu double feature last night. The first film was HBO's biopic of Gia with Angelina Jolie in the title role. It's a really fine film about the crash and burn of the fashion model.

I followed that up with Super 8. I liked the structure of the film till the last few chapters. There's something I don't like about the last 20 minutes but I haven't quite sorted that out yet. This is the best surround sound design I've heard in quite some while....years. It should win an award for sound editing, I'd reckon.

Last night's double feature started out with The Flim Flam Man on DVD. It's been a long time coming for me to own a copy of this George C. Scott scam.... My second feature was They Live on BD. The way this country is going, I'm beginning to think that They Live is a documentary and 100% fact. That's a theory that fits the facts...

This movie has a sterling reputation.
Visually stunning, especially for its' age.
And I certainly appreciate the intricacies of the story, though I had to read the accompanying booklet to fully understand it.

But despite all this I don't really know what to think. Though I admire it, I can't say I enjoyed it.

Maybe it needs another viewing to properly sink in.

My double feature began with Fright Night on BD. The film looked very fine. It's gonna be hard to watch the remake anytime soon. Then I got it in my mind I wanted to watch Tommy Lee Jones in somethin'. I went with his film about the Georgia "Peach", Cobb.

"I hear you're from Georgia where the men are men and the sheep are nervous".
