Also in regards to the latter seasons, any excuse to not give screen time to Gilbert was a good one! I didn't like that manipulating little brat from his very first appearance!

Here's some info from Stephen Talbot (Gilvert Bates) on Jerry's website:

Steve Talbot - My Leave it to Beaver Pal! - The Official Jerry Mathers Website

He used to frequent the boards on IMBD and answered a lot of questions so I was disappointed when IMBD disabled their discussions.

One story I remember which was quite interesting is when he wrote about running for some type of school (college) election. He was defeated when his oppenent made up posters with a picture of him saying "Gee Beav, I don't know..." and something along the lines of "would you trust this guy?". He said it cost him the election.

He has pretty much distanced himself from the show so I find it odd that he wrote a nice piece on Jerry's site.

Here's another article he wrote last year:

The Day the Beaver Died: Reflections on Becoming an Anti-War Activist

  5. I recently watched Alfred Hitchcock's 1955 film "The Trouble With Harry". I'd never seen it before. It begins with a little boy discovering a dead body in the Vermont woods. And guess who played the boy?

I was always a big Leave It To Beaver fan. Kind of a coincidence that my grandparents are buried near Barbara Billingsley in Woodlawn Cemetery in Santa Monica.
Irene Ryan is there too. So is Hal Smith (Otis the drunk in Mayberry).

The Beav's monotone voice is unmistakable, but he does a bang-up job bashing away on his guitar.

You know, I grew up with Beaver. Watched them all in first run and then ad nauseum in syndication. I would venture I have seen every episode a dozen times. Then I grew up.
Ran into it a few years ago on cable and realized I had no nostalgia for it at all. It just hasn't aged well for me.
Beaver was annoying, and stupid even for a little kid, Wally was a dork, and June and Ward were unbelievably dumb and dull. Wanting to punch Eddie Haskell in the face is not a draw. The best thing in the show was the Wilsons, and then he died and things got weird with Mr Wilsons "brother" moving in with Mrs Wilson.

I would rather watch the Rascals.

I'm wondering what he's on about with the Wilsons too. Kind of ruins the point of the whole argument if he comes off as confused.

Until viewing this box set, I never realized how popular the word "clobbered" was in the series.
