Anyone know much information about how this record was made, where etc. As always, the drums are just off the hook but curious to know about all else. How many tracks did they record this on at the time? Was there a a bunch of track bouncing or was it a live take? Would love to know!!

To be honest my friend.....I have no idea!! And by the lack of response neither does anyone else!!

It's a great song though. Very different to their usual sound. Maybe a bit of an experiment? There is a big Reggae vibe going on.

Some people dislike it for not having the usual Zep vibe, but I think it's a great, great song.

Yeah...it gets a lot of grief. But to me, it is a vital part of Houses of the Holy,
as is The Crunge. My only issue with the record are the pitch changes.

Houses of the Holy is my fav Zep album. Its diversity is a big reason why and D'yer Maker is a big part of that.
    Catchy, unique, I love it.

Just learned recently it's pronounced "Jamaica"

Very cool song- I've always loved the fact that it is so different...drums are amazing, Page's solo is fantastic...

This reggae number may have provided inspiration for D'yer Mak'er

One of those cool silly-but-I-love-'em kind of songs. Boogie with Stu is another one that comes to mind. Oh and The Crunge, of course...
Love that piano lick towards the end and Plant going Oooooooooooooooooooooh yeah. :)

The new remaster sounds, at least to my ears, like the 1994 edition.

I always wondered about the ending and the whispered word, "Fire" (?), which is repeated a number of times. There are a few Zeppelin songs with whispered words in them, but very rarely does this get discussed. It does create an interesting ambience.

    As in:

"My wife is going on holiday to the West Indies"
    "Jamaica?"
    "No, she chose to go"

    True source!!

One of the few Zep songs that I just cannot stomach at all. Beyond awful. Love most of the rest of the album though.

Right. They thought it was so funny they wrote a song about it, or at least the title. I just don't get English humor, sometimes. I don't think it's that funny. Great song, though.

I don't suppose they thought anyone would be taking it seriously 40 years later!

Of course, what we really need is the unheard rumoured follow-up called Thursday.

    "It's windy today"
    "No, it's Thursday"
    "So am I - let's go for a drink" :)

IMO if they had left off this track and The Crunge and replaced them with 2 songs that were also recorded during these sessions, The Rover and the title track Houses of the Holy, it would have been in the top 3 Lp's of all time!!!

AS it is it has to settle for top 10 of all time......but I can make my own LP from the tracks of the time and I always want to do that very substitution.

    The Song Remains the Same
    The Rain Song
Over the Hills and Far Away
    The Rover
    Houses of the Holy
    No Quarter
    Dancing Days
    The Ocean
