iTunes just made the "Mastered For iTunes" versions of the Led Zeppelin albums available.

Let's hope the next part of the release schedule is "Mastered for High Resolution".

    Crossing my fingers with those.

On another note. I don't see them in the iTunes store, just the Mothership remasters. Are they up there yet?

They're up in the UK store. Note the "Mastered for iTunes" at the beginning of the iTunes notes section.

I don't know him but he is a member on another mailing list related to Zeppelin. He doesn't mention where he's sourcing his other mp3 from but my guess is the remasters that came after Barry's. Of course it could be from any of the many releases since then.

Before everyone rips these to shreds, how about we actually listen to a few of them first? Since I do most of my listening on a digital device anyway, I'm actually looking forward to an improvement over the older files I have.

In regards to digital for me nothing will top just having needledrops of the Classic Records issues (and the RL LZII ;) )

Just because these were "remastered for iTunes" does not necessarily mean the source for these is from the new remasters that Page is currently working on.

This thread is about as useless as I'd imagined so far.

I'd get HOTH but I don't have the cash to spare at the moment. Anyone with an informed opinion mind posting, or is this going to be another useless "Lossy Files Suck" thread?

I might be able to grab at least some of these via iTunes Match - I ended up renewing it.

I'm one for two with a quick test of this (US customer btw):

Here's an informed opinion: Lossy files suck.

Bad masterings suck much more. I'd take a well-mastered 256kps AAC over a badly mastered redbook CD or vinyl LP any day of the week.

EDIT: LZII, just did a Match and 5/9 songs are listed as Mastered for iTunes. Not too bad. I'm guessing I'll see similar results for other LP's possibly. Btw, I own an admittedly scratched up RL LP for this one.

 You're a riot. And no, that's not an "informed" opinion. It's a subjective opinion.
