John Lennon lived in the now--and described (Just Like) Starting Over as "Elvis Orbison", Woman as "Miracles/Beatles '64", and played old rock 'n' roll songs whenever he got the chance. It's like when George Harrison, in the Anthology, criticized Elvis for going Vegas and having female backup singers instead of doing good ol' simple rock 'n' roll like he used to. Sometimes artists want to try different things, George. You know.

But it's all fine of course. They were human. And brilliant musicians.

Well said. When I listen to The Beatles, it's not nostalgia, it's an experience of hearing some wonderfully executed art by some talented and interesting guys. I occasionally enjoy a Bach cantata, but never do I yearn for life in the early 18th century. ;)

I love the music and hate the nostalgia.
Yes, I bought the Beatles mono set. It wasn't me being a Luddite. It was because that's the way they intended the music to be heard.
I love J.S. Bach, as well. That doesn't mean I wish to go back to 1730 and catch a dose of cholera.
Great music is evergreen. Nostalgia is cheap as chips and not nearly as tasty.

Yeah, but if you attempt to talk about that great music here, someone's going to call you a fanatical fanatic screaming girl from '64 who is engaging in idolatry and blah blah blah.

It took 2 pages to get the word brilliant in. I am impressed.

    Michael I LOVE WIDE S-T-E-R-E-O!

"Carrying The Beatles' or the Sixties' dream around all your life is like carrying the Second World War and Glenn Miller around. That's not to say you can't enjoy Glenn Miller or The Beatles, but to live in that dream is the twilight zone. It's not living now. It's an illusion." — John Lennon, Playboy interview, 1980.
    Happy Birthday John...
thanks for the advice John, but I have large pockets and they fill up nicely with great memories that I will carry with me...relax and float down stream...

Keep these photos coming! Always cheers me up to see these bozos burning their now-valuable Beatles items! :D
Got the ones where some giggly girl rips pages out of Lennon's expensive book? Or the poor fool who sets the valuable Remco Beatles Doll ablaze? They're my favorites!

I think his message to the forum might be to stop those threads about what would have happened if George had been born a girl and who is better The Beatles or Bread.

Any chance he was under the influence if something when he made that statement.

That's all very well, but did he compile the perfect tracklisting for a single LP of the White Album?
