I wanna thank everyone's idea's for this 12" boxset. I've just finished volume 9 and i have enough tracks for the last volume. When i'm done with the whole set it will features 100 of the best 12 inches ever. And remember, this set was compiled by you. There were some ideas which i was unable to find because i was looking for the best quality available. Maybe someone here can look for the tracks that i couldn't find. If someone is intered in doing a sort of boxset part 2, let me know and i will send you the info text file. I will upload the almost finished set here if that is allowed of course. I had great fun doing this and i hope other people got excited enough to do these kind of things.

i've just been posting... keeping in mind more w/your "Box Set" outline i would defiantly think/post more in terms of a 70's Punk/Rock Box, a 80's New Wave/Dance Box, & a Disco/R&B Box, for me anyway.
Hoping too find some cool new 12" mixes on this thread; BIG thanks!

Nice tracklist. I have one complaint. Depeche Mode Just Can't Get Enough. That's from their beginning and way too poppy. I guess someone suggested it, so no offense meant. My suggestion would be adding in a song also from later more representative of their darker sound. I would love to see Strangelove added. Just Can't Get Enough was the first album before Martin took over writing and took it in a darker direction and before Alan Wilder came on who really was instrumental to their sound.

How about adding these 12" records I have in my pile:

Deep Forest (two tracks per side of alternate mixes from their first album).

A 45 RPM version from UB40 of: "Red Red Wine" backed with "Sufferin'"

A killer 12" from MCA Records: Side A is Patti Labelle's "New Attitude(Extended Version") and side B is: "Axel F" by Harold Faltermeyer

and finally, a 12" mini-LP of "Blinded By Science" by Thomas Dolby. Five tracks including extended versions of "Flying North" and Radio Silence".

I believe the only extended mixes from Born In The USA were the title track, Dancing In The Dark and (if my memory isn't failing me) Cover Me. There are 12" versions with remixes of those songs. I think that version of Pink Cadillac (on the 45) is the original.

 

Danicing in the Dark is fairly crap (IMO) - lots of unnecessary synsonic drum fills:

I think both were fine as they were. Sometimes rock tunes don't translate well as dance remixes (especially in the 80s).

Every Depeche Mode single out of Violator features alternate mixes by the great François Kevorkian (I call them alternate mixes instead of remixes, cos he himself had mixed the original album verisons to begin with).

 

In fact, most François K 12" remixes are essential, including many already mentionned here (Kraftwerk, The Cure, Jan Hammer).
