Almost forgot about his track on T Bone Burnett's Proof Through The Night which features a lot of superb guests including Pete Townshend and Mick Ronson.

I know and appreciate what you're saying @bobc but Ry's vocals on his latest album 'The Prodigal Son' are some of his best in years.

Mark LeVine - Better Dad Than Dead

From Mark LeVine's obscure singer-songwriter album "Pilgrim's Progress", released in 1968.
Ry Cooder is playing acoustic bottleneck guitar on this track.
He is featured on acoustic guitar, mandolin and electric bottleneck guitar on some other tracks of this album.

One of the more unusual albums in my collection w/ Ry Cooder is by a band called Fusion, consisting of Rick Luther on clavinet, vibes, piano and drums, Harvey Lane on saxes, clarinet and flute, Bill Wolff on guitars and bass, Richard Matzkin on drums and Gary Marker on basses and guitar. Gary Marker is the only name I'm familiar with, having been a member of the Rising Sons and associated with Beefheart circa Safe As Milk. It's a bit of a schizophrenic album, one side being a mellow jazz/rock affair and the other being a blues/rock boogie thang. Ry is featured on the blues rock side on bottleneck and rhythm guitar. The album cover is by Eve Babitz, who did the cover art for Buffalo Springfield Again, and, I believe, Avalanche by Eric Andersen. I'm not sure when the album was released, but I'd guess 1969 or 1970.

I forgot to mention Neil Young's first solo album, the first record by Crazy Horse, and The Haden Triplets cd, which Ry produced and plays on. If you don't know the Haden Triplets, they are the daughters of the late great jazz bassist Charlie Haden, and the cd is a Roots/Americana gem, with beautiful harmony vocals. Highly recommended.
