Picked up a Sherwood S8900 receiver , ca 1972. Had read about what a great receiver it was, but this is stupid silly. Paired with KLH Model Six speakers from '59, it's a system that sings so clearly, and with so much tone, that I'm continually forced to look up and try to understand why this sounds so good. The receiver cost me a bit more than $100, and the speakers about the same. Nothing has been restored. The speakers are sealed, and probably have military grade oil caps that last a lifetime. The receiver probably could use a refresh, but not by it's sound. And it's phono! OMG! Fabulous. And I'm comparing it to a $2000 stand alone phono. Who woulda thunk?

Love that cheap old stuff can still bring a huge smile.

And now it's gone, replaced by a mostly restored Fisher 500B. Even better, with the same Six's. Use this system to spin 78's on a Dual 1019. Nice way to spend the 4th.

    "Lightning has struck again."

Don't say that to people with thousands of dollars worth of gear plugged into the wall! :)

I like that song, but it's strange.
