Not a movie but I'm reminded of Simon the Likable from Get Smart

Bruce the shark in Jaws III in 3D since there were no likable characters in that one.
King Kong in the original and the Peter Jackson remake.
    Samwise in LOTR

Dennis Quaid usually played likable characters, even his take on Jerry Lee Lewis.

Tom Hanks, the same, even when he plays a crank like the FBI guy in Catch Me If You Can.

I think Tom Hanks is the most notable actor in recent times who almost always seems likable in his roles.

Ed Wynn's Uncle Albert from Mary Poppins comes to mind. I actually like him more than Mary Poppins herself!

Jon Cryer's Duckie from Pretty in Pink made me wonder what Molly Ringwald's character ever saw in that other guy

Paul Dooley was a great dad in both Breaking Away and Sixteen Candles

The Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy

Pretty much any character played by Peter Ustinov was likable, but my first thought was his old man from Logan's Run (this cats scene was particularly charming):

When your younger and you watch films like Ferris Buellers day off or Police academy you obviously think Ferris & Mahoney are cool, as you I got older I realized I despise people like that, James Bond as well, he's a horrible psychopath dickhead.

I greatly enjoy the simple humor in this character.

  23. Gromit, from any of the Wallace and Gromit films and shorts.
