New Netflix made-for-internet-download show about an American mobster who turns state evidence to convict Mafia members, and they put him in a witness protection program... in Norway!

It's a funny idea, because Steven Van Zandt is essentially doing the exact same role he did on The Sopranos (as hit man "Silvio Dante"). It's gotten very good reviews so far.

  4. Seems the trailer for this was on youtube a long time ago....nice to see it's finally getting aired.

Haven't seen it yet but am looking forward to checking it out hopefully soon.

I'm just glad that "Silvio" didn't die in the hospital after all! (They left us hanging with the final episode of The Sopranos.)

Greater than the sum of its parts

Killer new Netflix show that combines the "humorous" elements of 'The Sopranos' with the sensibilities of 'In Bruges' and the snowbound ambiance of 'Fargo'. Lotsa great music too...

Watched the first episode the other day on my iPhone via the Netflix app and really enjoyed it.
Have to re-watch it on my TV via the PS3 and see it on a bigger screen.

Looking forward to catching all 8 episodes. Very good!

I'm going to have to check this out. I was a big fan of his character on the Sopranos. Easily the funniest guy on the show. (I know, I know, it wasn't a comedy.) I had heard he was doing some promotions for his new show, but didn't know what it was/what it aired on. I'll definitely try to catch this on Netflix.

How is the production value? This being Netflix's first original series to air, I'm curious to know how it stacks up against traditional outlets. Especially with Arrested Development back on the horizon.

    How the mighty have fallen

Unfortunately, HBO lost their desire to program for my demographic.
I used to follow about a half dozen of their originals...now they
seem to be chasing the 'under 35 ' urban/liberal audience that
thinks Bill Mahr is funny (and not just funny-looking). FX and USA
have taken up some of the slack, but HBO had a pretty impressive
line-up of original programming during their Golden Age from 1999-2008.

Thanks for the heads up on this, I hadn't heard anything about it until reading your post. I know it's not a spin off, but I can't help but wonder, if the show takes off, if they'll try to get some of the other Soprano's cast members to do some "special guest" appearances. I'd love to see Steven Van Zandt and Michael Imperioli on screen together again... they were a lot of fun to watch.

    edit:
My bad, I was thinking about Paulie "Walnuts" Gualtieri and Michael Imperioli together. Still, seeing some of the old Soprano's cast together again would be great.

Aside from my issues with how this looks on Apple TV (my Verizon FIOS is 25 up/down, hooked directly to the ATV via Ethernet, and it still looks unacceptably choppy), this is a fun show for a long-time Sopranos fan.
