The rebooted King Crimson with Adrian Belew on guitar and vocals
    Mick Taylor joining the Stones
Ronnie James Dio rejuvenated (if not improved) Black Sabbath. Likewise, Randy Rhoads rejuvenated Ozzy's musical career.
Be Bop Deluxe twice, first getting Simon Fox (drums) and Charlie Tumahai (bass) after the first album and then adding Andy Clarke on keys after the 2nd album.

Would find it hard to believe that there was no such thread topic previously, but here goes:

CSN were pretty damn good to begin with, but Neil Young definitely added something more.
Robbie McIntosh replacing interim member, Billy Bremner, in Pretenders.
Steve Howe and Rick Wakeman provided upgrades on guitar and keyboards for Yes.
Andy Summers replacing Henri Padovani (sp?) in The Police.
Wayne Shorter joining Miles Davis Quintet after series of short-term sax players during early 60's.

Sid Vicious? Their early singles were the best things they ever did.
    Michael Schenker to UFO
    Grace Slick to Jefferson Airplane
Gorham/Robertson to Thin Lizzy (though Eric Bell's solo on the Rocker is my favorite Lizzy moment)
    Dave Grohl to Nirvana

Gillan and Glover joining Deep Purple in place of Nick Semper and Rod Evans.
Of course then they got the heave ho, and Coverdale and Hughes took over....not so much of an upgrade.

I really like those first three Journey albums, so Steve Perry was definitely not an improvement IMO.
