The "All Night Long" 45 is the first record I bought. This album was my second album purchase.
I was a huge Lionel Richie fan when I was 14!
Haven't listened to this in a while. I should break it out again.
I think "Running With The Night" is my favorite song on the album. That may change when I listen.

It's a great album, and I still dig out the original vinyl from time to time. The long version of All Night Long makes it for me. The reception that Lionel got at Glastonbury last year in the"family" Sunday tea time slot (and the live TV audience) showed that the album hits are as popular and well known now as they were back in the day. As others have said, Cant Slow Down is the high point of his career (though his debut was nice too and he made some great records with the Commodores). Prince, in my view, topped Purple Rain with Sign of the Times and Parade (great though it is), and BITUSA is a long way from Bruce's best album, despite its sales.

Lionel Richie's very best album is Louder Than Words!

I love love love the album but I always skip the opening (title) track which really doesn't fit vibe wise with the other tracks. Always felt like a failed attempt at mimicking Michael Jackson.

Far from my personal favorite album by him, but I will admit to loving this overlooked little gem, from it ...

Have to admit I never thought of the title song that way, but I listened to it again and can definitely hear what you hear - clear "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" vibe there!

One of the best albums to come out of the 80's if you ask me. Richie is iconic! I love "Running With the Night" in particular. The outro with the background cannons, and all the instruments/rhythms merging together as it fades out is a thing of beauty.

And "Hello" is truly one of my favorite ballads from the era as well. It works like a charm when trying to seduce a little lady friend! :p

Now that makes me feel very old! Have to say that the opening title track is actually my favorite number! I 'm not normally a big fan of syn drums and rhythm boxes, but David Cochrane did a great job putting this together, and I love the guitar licks. The icing on the cake is Lionel's vocals. The demo version shows how much more polished the final version is. Would love to hear an extended version of it.

So many great songs on this album. It probably just edges out its predecessor & successor as his best album although Wandering Stranger on the debut remains my favourite Lionel Richie song.

Definitely a fantastic album! '83-'86 were fantastic years for music! I'd even toss in 1982 for good measure!

Very good album. Not Album of the Year worthy (considering the albums it was up against, that is) but definitely one of the best albums of 1983-84.

    Definitely his best work.

The sound of Lionel dissecting Thriller. Excellent album. It’s his Thriller, as far as I’m concerned.

Just listening again, tonight. Really a terrific album.

Now, that guitar lick in Stuck on You that is entirely lifted from Wonderful Tonight...
I guess it’s quite the tribute, actually.
