Someone posted this on Facebook (Elvis in Arkansas page) and I thought this forum would enjoy it.

The two best acts are openers. . .the Top and Foghat!!!

Actually, Jeff Beck and Edgar Winter would be among the best, too!

I miss the coliseum concerts from the late 70s and 80s. Here its monster truck shows, wrestling matches and rodeos now. People dont seem to care about music concerts here anymore. Plus, half of those listed are dead or no longer together.

I bet the yellow mark means "Really want to go." And then the pink mark is the final decision "Im going to this one! Screw work!!"

Or the yellow is "I can remember this one, however vaguely!"

Heck yeah he was. EP was IT. Yes, even in the hard rock 70s. What I recall is that Elvis coming to your town was like the President coming. An event. One might be a hard rock fan or soul fan or hippy music fan; but people knew Elvis as a legendary figure. He covered all bases and all types of music fans.

Plus Elvis was still a great performer to see in 72. 2-3 yrs later....not so much.

I got to see 9 off that list. No James Brown, ABB or Guess Who though.

Interesting that Charlie Pride was the 3rd highest draw that year. Did he have a big hit that year?

Jackson Five were the second biggest draw. Not a big surprise there.

Thanks for posting this list. Very interesting.

Looks like the attendance at most of those shows only about half filled the coliseum. As I recall capacity was a bit less than 12,000. I suspect Elvis may have been a sell out.

The Colonel knew (1) how to fit more seats into the venue and/or (2) inflate sales stats... ;)

I would've expected a bigger draw for George Jones and Tammy Wynette (especially in 1972 Arkansas), but maybe there was bad weather.

Elvis smoked everyone. I didn't expect him to outsell everyone else quite to this degree.

Roberta Flack apparently had the worst attendance although "First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" was at #1 when she performed.

Not surprised at all that Elvis outsold all others.

On the April '72 tour of 15 dates average attendance was 14,500-15000 people.

Son, thats a lot of teddy bears being sold.

R&B singer. (I had to look him up, too!). Had a big hit that year, as well.

Hold on there cowboy! NOT every show...
Cut from the bottom of the list: Dec. 13th: Deep Purple with Fleetwood Mac, and jazz 'n' blues saxophonist, "Dick" Heckstall-Smith.

And there might be other shows after that one.

Perhaps the outrageous ticket prices of $2.50, $4.75 or even $9.99 or whatever were just way too much for many too afford....:help: :shake:

Yep. And she still lives here too.

She worked for the North Little Rock school district as a substitute teacher for awhile.
