First time I've heard this work by Dvorak. It's very good, as is the performance/recording. Rec: 1961 Originally recorded by Supraphon.
Recorded 7/6-7/78, St. Jude-on-the-Hill, Hampstead. Producer: Peter Wadland. Engineer: John Dunkerley. Very nice.
It appears Hogwood's Vivaldi box does not include the above LP recording ... I bought the box a few years ago.
You cannot find a more non-HIP guy than Jean-Francois Paillard, even when compared to Karl Richter ..
1981 2-LP set of recordings from the Seon label, made 3/73. Leonhardt plays the organ of the Waalse Kerk, Amsterdam. Producer: W. Erichson. Engineer: D. Thomsen. Mastering: Bill Kipper, Masterdisk Corp.
I believe these are not hybrid SACD's, so have no red book CD layer - hence they will not make it to Chez Wugged. Instead, I have this : It sounds fantastic to my old ears
Thank you for your comment . I have just bought a copy of the Previn (original EMI) and will do a comparison with the Muti and the Jochum to find my overall favourite. This is a piece I don't know well, so firstly I must get to know it more, and then give each version a few plays through. It may take a while !
Recently I read some forensic analysis that showed that 1966 shot by Geoff Hurst hit the cross bar but never crossed the goal line though the ref ruled that as a goal by England. I am surprised the FIFA refs are still not using instant replays extensively when in doubts nowadays ...
Didn't you have the SACD version as well? I thought every man and his cousin have it, myself included ...
They used the VAR system at this years World Cup and I'm sure it will be regularly used in International football now. Eventually it will filter into national leagues, but this is probably price dependent. The England goal in '66 certainly crossed the goal-line. It's just that film reels from the event have gotten a little bit warped over time.
Seriously, you must remember this was 1966, and Russian linesmen had very little love towards Germans...........
