Recorded 3/2-3/82. Produced by Marc Aubort & Joanna Nickrenz. Engineering: Elite Recordings, Inc., NYC.
I liked the Rosand LP, but this one is even better. Recorded 10/19-21/82. Produced by Marc Aubort & Joanna Nickrenz. Engineering: Elite Recordings, Inc., NYC. Digital recording: JVC Digital Audio System (DAS-90). Engineer: Frank Dickinson, Digital By Dickinson. Points can be deducted (or added) for such an ugly label.
@J.A.W. Do you know anything about Dutch Formosa, the present-day Taiwan? It was under Dutch rule for a while. This is something even my 86 year old good friend who immigrated from the Netherlands did not know ... Dutch Formosa - Wikipedia
I used to hear the NY classical FM playing recordings by Elmar Oliveira back in the day. What a shot from the past?
The Madrigal History Tour is one of my deserted island disks. It introduced me into the world of these worldly Renaissance composers when I was a teenager, and after all these years the performances are still exhilarating !

Yes, I'm aware of those Dutch settlements in Asia (and Africa), but I've always been more interested in the Dutch outposts in North America.
Picked this used copy up at a record store. I like to look for the lesser known composers. Quite a nice record.
Indeed, the Dutch settlements in North America is far more interesting and much easier to relate to. Unlike Abraham Lincoln, the two Roosevelts still have surviving descendants, though none are active in politics ...
Apart from the name of the violinist,Nathan Milstein, there is no information at all on the disc cover or in the booklet for this performance.
Liner notes are expensive to produce so the record company does not want to print too much since every additional letter adds more cost. I decided against this box way back since my pick-and-choose system of selecting the best singles to buy has worked so well for me. These boxes are good for folks who want a collection of works from the baroque period and are not particularly critical about having specific ensembles or soloists ... I suspect portions from the following twofer recordings are included in CD31 from this box ...
Now playing CD9, the last CD - Piano Sonatas No 32, 11 Bagatelles Op. 119 and 6 Bagatelles Op. 126 from the following box for a first listen ... An excellent box and Kovacevich is the ONLY American pianist whose Beethoven Piano Sonatas box I would own ...
Well, the worst of them is Rene Jacobs IMO ... I much prefer the Tallis Scholars with a blend of tenors, baritones and sopranos.
Classic performance from the 70s. My favourite, actually. Milstein wasn’t the youngest anymore at this point, but you wouldn’t guess that from the recording. It’s just as vibrant and energetic as any of the newest HIP recordings.
