If they wanted, they could issue the Mother of All Big Boxes. He recorded for either RCA or Columbia from 1936 to the late 70s.
Recorded 2/10/52, Syria Mosque. Producer: Richard Jones. Engineer: Frank Abbey. Issued 1954. This is a later pressing with the late-50s/early-60s FDS label. Good sound for a 1952 recording. I also have this on a 1997 EMI Classics FDS CD. Oddly, that series doesn't use the Capitol logo, even though EMI owned Capitol. Only in the credits does it tell you that it was originally released on Capitol.
I am almost positive I have this recording in the following box, which I bought a number of years ago ...
Not sure if too many people would have appetite for a 200-CD mega box. IIRC, @mdekoning owns the Mozart 225 mega box but I do not know how many CD's the box actually has ...
I bought this CD twofer new a number of years ago when the label Philips was still around. These days, this twofer may still be around but under the Decca label as new but the Philips twofer has to be found in the used market ...
Back in the spring I took a month off of the internet. I enjoyed it enough that I have reduced my online time by about 70%. This has given me extra time for other activities. Besides catching up on some home remodeling projects, I put in my usual amount of time on hiking trails. Taking advantage of the dry weather, I spent more time than usual on my Mountain bike. I recently got this two CD set of four string quartets by Carl Cherny: I like them them a lot.
Listening to "Jerusalem - Gregorian Chant and Early Polyphony" performed by Discantus led by Brigitte Lesene on Opus 111.
Listening to "Monteclair - Cantates A Voix Seule" performed by (the lovely and talented) Emma Kirkby and the London Baroque on BIS.
I have been giving the news a rest, ignoring it on TV, the internet & in print. It's very restful. I already know how I'm voting anyway.
I am happy I bought this Steinberg Icon box as this box could well be OOP for good since WarnerMusic has not bothered to re-release it since it took over EMI. There are quite a few recordings by the PSO which I had hoped to get as CD singles but they were long OOP and used copies have some real outrageous prices ...
CD 3 from this set. Mládí (Youth) - Suite For Wind Sextet Capriccio For Piano (Left Hand), Flute & Brass Ensemble - "Vzdor" ("Defiance") Concertino For Piano, 2 Violins, Viola, Clarinet, Horn & Bassoon Pohádka (Fairy Tale) For Cello & Piano Presto for Cello & Piano
I have tuned out TV news for ages. Some truths are still available on the internet but one has to be watchful ...
Very nice music, well performed and recorded. Emma is in fine voice. I think it would be a worthwhile acquisition for any Emma fan.
I downloaded this recording today (24 bit/96k). Every bit as good as Book I from him. He uses a wide array of articulation, pedaling, and dynamics to bring the music to life. Great sound, too.
This is an excellent set that unfortunately didn't get much attention - it was mentioned on this board a few times ages ago, but that was it.
