A great example of American Modernism here, very well played and recorded-- Roger Sessions: Symphony No. 9 (1978)
Brahms: Violin Concerto and concerto for Violin and Cello in A Minor 1982/3 1993 DG "Karajan Gold" 439007-2 Berlin Philharmonic cond. Herbert von Karajan A-S Mutter on Violin and Antonio Meneses on Cello The 1993 OBI remaster of the early digital recordings that sound scratchy on my then Sony CD Player that I got rid of it two decades ago (that player was harsh!) but this sound much better now bettering the original from The Great Violin Concertos box so is being folded in that set for the S_M edition and gain an extra work.
Mendelssohn & Bruch Violin Concertos (r)1981 2001 DG "The Originals" 463 461-2 Berlin P.O. cond. Herbert von Karajan with Anne-Sophie Mutter Okay it's Milstein with me usually for the Mendelssohn but this is pretty good and the Original Image Bit Processing thing helps so this is going in my redone Great Violin Concertos box. Nothing like an upgrade,eh?
I like Callas a lot but am definitely not a rabid fan if you know what I mean. ...she made great recordings such as the one you posted. ...
Actually, there is indeed a 4 series of BMW in the USA. My boss has one! Its way over my pay grade, though....
Thanks for letting me know--Mosaiques are easily one of my favorite quartets. These are actually up on Spotify now.
WP Nyiregyházi Plays Liszt (International Piano Archives) Ervin Nyiregyházi solo, side one recorded in L.A. in 1974 and side two a concert in San Francisco in 1973. The live recording was done by an amateur so it's not the best sound and the engineers had to make eq choices to combat that but the performance is amazing as is the better sounding side one. The inside of the lp gives a bit of biographic info on the pianist who sounds like he led an interesting life. NP Pablo Casals - Bach's Six Suites For Cello Solo (Angel) 1980s reissue. This was my second purchase of the cello suites after being introduced to them by Yo Yo Ma. It has been my favorite since then although now with several other excellent versions I'm not sure if I have an absolute favorite now.
Callas never recorded any operas I truly like and that is why it is hard for me to own any of her recordings ...
Piano Music Jeroen Van Been (2014) I saw several posts on his latest collection but nothing on this Brilliant Classics 5 cd set. Picked it up a while ago and am still marvelling at disc 1, Minimal Preludes Book 3. Lego Music is apparently what Van Ven has (seriously) termed his compositional style. The repetitive figures are intensely and exactingly performed, but he's also playful, rueful and the movements are often accompanied by actual and replicated sounds of contemporary city life - which function as extensions and transitions of and for the piano passages. Intriguing! On Spotify, too.
Only a supercomputer has any chance to successfully work on this rubik's cube, assuming only six colors are used ...
I don't really keep up with cars that much, particularly sedans since I have been driving only SUV's for well over a decade ...
Now Playing: CD #4 from the Zubin Mehta: Symphonies and Symphonic Poems box on Decca Mehta leading the Los Angeles Philharmonic in: Tchaikovsky Symphony #1 Tchaikovsky Symphony #2
CD 13 from The Complete EMI Recordings of Jacqueline du Pre, this disc has both Brahms Cello Sonatas. A fine performance from Jacqueline, but I can't get on board with Barenboim who plays this unlike any other performance I've heard. The Rostropovich/Serkin remains my favorite and Serkin's performance is wonderfully nuanced. Would love to hear Rostropovich/Richter for the first first, but that disc is quite difficult to find.
The last SUV I drove was in 2003/2004 in Mexico. Its was a 2001 BMW X5. Best SUV I ever had. Before that one a Lincoln Navigator but that was -even though comfortable in every way- .....a nightmare in terms of fuel efficiency.
