Now listening to "Elgar - Violin Concerto / Vaughan Williams - The Lark Ascending" performed by Hilary Hahn and the London Symphony Orchestra led by Colin Davis on DG.
Another sealed tape from the basement stash. The Bagatelles are also presented in the original version for two violins, cello & harmonium. The Serenade is scored for winds, cello & bass. Recorded 10/7-9/88. Producer: Chr. Herr. Engineer: R. Ruble. I'm not sure what the original label was.
I see where a few of her SACDs are OOP and getting some attention in the 200$ range. I won't sell mine though.
Some of tonight's listening. Gideon Kremer is excellent and deserves a listen. I'm sorry they didn't work out for you. These are the SLH-5+ aren't they. He changed the voicing so that they be more contemporary sounding. Not to everyone's taste.
Some op‘ra: Karl Böhm conducts Richard Strauss‘ ELEKTRA. Recorded with the Staatskapelle Dresden in coproduction with the East German authorities. Lacquers mastered February 1966, pressed 1967.

Listening to Kurt Sanderling conducting Bruckner’s Third for the East German ETERNA label, recorded 1963. Source: the 2CD remaster on Berlin Classics commemorating Sanderling’s 95th birthday. The sound is pretty spectacular. Incidentally, in the booklet for this edition they are critical of their ‘90s remasters, where they say too much noise reduction had been used.
NP, this new recording of D. 929 with the original version of the finale, adding about five minutes of music to this epic movement. Terrific SACD sound from MDG, who can be inconsistent but seem to have really dialed in the sonics lately.
Now streaming on Amazon, "Paul Natorp (1854-1924) - Der Philosoph Als Komponist" performed by Florian Meierott (violin), Yuri Favorin (piano), Alexander Hülshoff (cello) and Stefan Palm (piano) on Querstand. A philosopher who tried his hand at composition. Brahms wasn't impressed. Sounds OK to me.
Now playing: Ludwig van Beethoven – Sonata for Piano No.14 in C sharp minor Op.27/2 "Moonlight" – Sonata for Piano No.8 in C minor Op.13 "Pathétique" – Sonata for Piano No.23 in F minor Op.57 "Appassionata" Daniel Barenboim (piano) (Deutsche Grammophon)
(CD Nonesuch German Press 79474) 1997 .... finally got hold of a mint copy - unbounded clarity of both performance and sound (recorded/supervised in 1978 by Joanna Nickrenz and Marc J. Aubort) ....
I'll be back'atcha later after an excursion into the first two Art Garfunkel albums on sacd and ordering some Bis Grieg sacds
These forces are clearly doing a Saint-Saens concerto/orchestral works cycle. I highly approve. I think the 4th and 5th Piano Concertos should be coming soon... I think Naxos isn't doing them anymore, but I'd love a blu-ray audio of this cycle; Naxos has stated they mix everything in surround even if they don't release it, and are recording in 24/96 these days.
(CD Sony Classical Austrian Press SK-62308) 1996 .... recorded at Salle de Musique, La Chaux de Fonds, Switzerland May and December 1995 .... Pierre-Laurent Aimard really nails it here ....
After a walk... A favourite recording of Le Quattro Stagioni sounding quite warm for an an early digital recording on regular cd.
