I owned that vinyl years ago. I remember Muti's aggressive approach to the outer movements in the Serenade. It was quite the contrast to Ormandy's "Philadelphia Sound". I liked it a lot.
OMG don't even get me started on that. We are listening to a strange mix of records tonight. My husband just played The Rolling Stones 'Emotional Rescue' for me and after that 'Some Girls'. He said to me....it's 40 years ago that Some Girls came out. It's like....' WTF' ????? 40 years? Can't be!!! That's simply scary. Unbelievable. I know exactly where I was when I first heard it- had a crush on a guy that only had eyes for an older - very attractive girl. Our parents were good friends and they visited often - we did as well. In his room he showed me his brand new copy of that LP and I really enjoyed it. I am not a huge The Rolling Stones fan, but that LP I've always liked a lot. (My all time fave being 'Goat's Head Soup'.) So yeah! You are so totally right. Life is moving too fast......

I probably have fewer than a dozen of Ormandy's recordings between LP's and CD's out of some 11,000 recordings. The lousy press quality of American record labels stopped me from getting more of his LP's early on ...

(CD Decca German Press 436 763-2) 1993 ..... it took Ashkenazy more than a decade to finish his Shostakovich cycle for Decca and especially his recordings with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra map the ragged glory of this composer`s music to full extent - this fabulous Symphony 8 is full evidence.... finally got hold of a mint copy of this version - the sound is excellent ....
