Brahms German Requiem is the greatest choral work for the classical period IMHO and here is my favorite version ...

I also have the VHS tape for the live performance.

Ah, zut: I forgot Berlioz and Saint-Saëns. I don't spin them very often, but I really should.

My number 1 as well. I have a few other renaissance composers' requiems, but I haven't listened enough to form an opinion

A good one often paired with Faure's is Durufle's. Some modern ones I like a lot are Penderecki's and Schniktte's and Britten's War Requiem.

Looking through my libary, I forgot about Takemitsu's Requiem which is really wonderful. I'm listening to it now.

Yes the Durufle is absolutely essential in my opinion!

I have just noticed that there is a performance coming up of the Durufle and the Faure on the same evening at the Festival Hall in London,
and I'm booking for sure, too good an opportunity to miss.

I have this version on Argo -

I'm a huge fan of La Stravaganza, ibanez! My favourite version: Rachel Podger and Arte dei Suonatori (2003), because of Mrs. Podger's totally unrestrained passion. :)

What the heck, I'll give it another listen since it's right in front of me. The sealed CD is not my image.
