Spotify Premium. Great playing, although I'm not familiar with these pieces. I just like what I hear.

Is anyone familiar with the Archiv 'Club Edition' vinyl releases?
I'm wondering how these differ from the standard Archiv releases ...

Here is the branding on the label -

I have many DG Archiv LP's but have never noticed this special Club-Edition category ...

Indeed - it's new to me too!
I might check with a German seller ...

    180g vinyl?
BTW, I have always thought that is much oversold ...

This is ostensibly a recital by Lazar Berman, but there is absolutely no information about the sources for the material nor any dates. He plays Beethoven's Sonatas No.14 and 23 (both are live recordings--No.23 is not nearly as dramatic as his Columbia studio recording), Chopin's "Heroic Polonaise" and a handful of Etudes, and an absolutely mind-blowing performance of Samuel Feinberg's transcription of the Scherzo from Tchaikovsky's Symphony No.6. It and a few of the Etudes are the ones that mostly sound the like fire-breathing, demonic Berman that I love! (Circa 1960-72) The sound varies from muddy to glassy.

No I'm looking at 'Club Editions' that appear to be released at the same time as the mainstream release in the 70's and 80's, so a bit of a mystery ...

No 180g of course, just quality Archiv vinyl ... :)

If the pressing is American, even 400G would make no difference ...

Those are Record Club editions, so those were sold to record club subscribers. Sorry to say, but they are generally less worth than standard editions, as they usually used cheaper covers. The vinyl inside is the same, I believe, save for the label. Parent label DG had the same—the covers usually had no yellow “DG cartridge” and were not laminated. I normally pass these over when I see them in the bins.

    Thanks for the insight.

But the regular DG Archiv LP's have laminated LP jackets as well ...

It is just hard for me not to think the club-edition LP was not more cheaply made.

Indeed, there is NO correlation between vinyl weight and sound quality. It's not like the grooves can be any deeper with a more heavy pressing or anything. It's still the same grooves. Some claim speed stability is better with heavier pressings, which is a bunch of bulls--t in my opinion, because then surely there's something wrong with your turntable in general.

I still buy new vinyl and I wish the labels would cut on the BS and go back to standard weight.

I didn't mean regular DG LPs, but DG Club Edition LPs were not laminated. Exceptions exist, of course.

Thank you! I like the standard Archiv covers a lot, so not in a hurry to 'downgrade' ... On the other hand, condition of vinyl matters to me most, so if I see sealed copies I'm happy to pick these up ... :)

Could be. I suppose record club editions would come out quite some time later after the regular release, so by then they might have cut on vinyl costs. All German record club pressings I've seen were actually quite nice in terms of vinyl, but I generally don't like the graphics and the cheaper presentation.

    Speed stability better?
Maybe if your deck is made out of balsa wood ...

(BTW, I suppose you realised that I meant to say “NO correlation” in my original post. I corrected.)
