Vaughan Williams: Sinfonia antartica;Symphony No.8 L.P.O cond. Sir Adrian Boult EMI CD5 from the five cd Symphonies box (2011)
The image is the original British HMV lp, couplings on cd have changed over the years but in the box this epic work is joined by the Eighth Symphony. A delight.

I bought the Schumann twofer before I bought the Karajan Symphony Edition, which I bought because I did not have any of Karajan's Bruckner Symphonies on DG and a few Haydn Symphonies I did not have in my collection ...

I have some version of this recording in that Vaughan Williams EMI box though do not know offhand if it was by Boult ...

I heard over the news about that record heatwave in parts of the UK today. I am still enjoying the 6 C temperature.

82 F is pretty hot in my book. I do not like warm weather.

Cooler weather makes the Sibelius 2nd that much more enjoyable! :righton:

I much prefer cooler weather myself. I don't like the humidity you get with the heat in the UK ...

In our flat it's around 26-27c right now which isn't very pleasant I can say ...

Not only the UK, the Continent has been hit too. It was 30C/86F here today, with wall-to-wall sunshine all day. Tomorrow promises to be cooler, which suits me much better. Fortunately, the weather will get back to normal in the weekend.

Much of the US northeast is still in late winter the last few days. Continental Europe got much more snow than usual in January and February while the US northeast got almost nothing with unusually warm weather. It is part of the climate change or weather shifting. I am not complaining about a shorter summer ...

Neither would I, but alas the summers keep getting hotter here. Maybe I should move to Scandinavia; Sweden seems to be a nice place, and it's a EU member, though I would lose the euro... Hmmm.

It was 95 degrees Fahrenheit here two days ago, that's a bit early in the year even for Texas.

But do you ever get temperature below 50 F where you are?

Yes, winters can be cold here. We had several days where it didn't get over freezing. Texas and Oklahoma get ice storms every year, usually more so than snow.

The areas around the Austrian Alps should be cool year round? No?

Great sound and great performance with good sense of natural flow. You could get into the music from the start and don’t want to stop til the last note.

Got this recently for 25 cents. Just put it on for a first listen & it sounds great. Recorded 12/89, Henry Wood Hall, London. A & R production: Louwrens Langevoort. Recording producer & balance engineer: Wilhelm Hellweg. Recording engineer: Roger de Schot.

It was 74F yesterday & 54F today. Tuesday it went from 33F at 7am to 73F at 3pm. I'm not very fond of spring due to the frequent large temperature swings, the threat of strong storms & floods and the heavy pollen.
