Love her version. Can't say I've ever heard the U2 original.

Grateful Dead "Anthem of the Sun" Deluxe 50th Anniversary 2 cd set.

On headphones, which is a great way to listen to both the original and the remix (both on disc 1). Very nicely remastered.

I love Flora. I know one jazz historian who hates her singing. Ah well! I love her singing.

    Agusti Fernandez Ad Libitum Ensemble

    River, Tiger, Fire

11 strong - suite in 8 parts lasting less than 3 minutes short of an hour (57:05)

Recorded live on October 19, 2014 @ Polish Radio Concert Hall in Warsaw

Arranged by Fernandez - not sure how much notation we have here - heavily improvised dynamic music.

Without a doubt one of the greatest pieces of music I’ve ever heard

Disc 1 of the 4 CD box celebrating Fernandez’s 60th birthday

Not jazz, but not too off the path of In A Silent Way either, but I have Talk Talk's beautiful Spirit of Eden on while drinking Kona coffee.

    @Lonson how have you been?

Watching this fascinating documentary. There's about an hour of additional interviews as bonus material that really are very interesting to hear . ..Teddy Charles, Billy Taylor, Ira Gitler et al.

Hey Jeff. Been pretty good. My wife has been having some health issues and just when we think we're over them there's another aspect, but I'm trying hard not to be worried and we may not have much to be worried about. I've been enjoying some new components that have really boosted my system and made me do the geeky audiophile trip for a few months--I've never heard music in my home like this before and I feel really fortunate. And I'm preparing for a visit from one of my very best friends in Texas (trumpeter Dave Laczko) who is coming to see me for the first time here in Ohio, and who I haven't seen in three years, and really looking forward to the listening and watching times we'll have. I have family here, my own and my wife's, but I don't have many friends and kindred spirits, so this is a big event for me.

How is your summer going? I'll have to check out a little Talk Talk. . . I totally dropped out of a lot of the mainstream and popular music listening in the 'eighties and 'nineties as I started studying and collecting jazz in earnest and played in a few bands as a drummer and these bands (blues-rock and a sort of eclectic singer/songwriter) had bandmembers who were really trying to avoid the radio and its influences. . . . But I know there's something to enjoy in Talk Talk.

Big scofield fan, thanks for the mention! Get "rough house" if you don't have it already. semi-fusion but not over the top and extremely musical.

I've probably said ths before but this was my first WR lp and one of my first jazz lps. Blew my mind, and then some.
I'll never forget the first time I heard Ralph Towner on The Moors.

I was a teenager in the 80s and you can tell by my current avatar that I do enjoy post punk, new wave, and synth pop.

I say all that because I love the entire Talk Talk catalog. The arc of that band's development over the course of five albums is quite astounding from synth pop debut to minimalist finale, touching on pop, rock and jazz in between?

For fans of Laughing Stock, check out the even more minimalist solo album from Mark Hollis.

I'm sorry to hear about your wife Lon and do hope everything is ok. Enjoy your new stereo components and your friends visit and try not to worry too much until you get more information. Easier said than done, I know too well.

My summer is good but very busy. Traveling more than usual for work right now (heading to Iowa and Virginia soon), playing softball for my company team, and catching some live concerts (mighty Radiohead for first time in two weeks!) and things mostly stable on home health front.
