NP: Paris Jam Session Recorded live on December 18, 1959. The 1988 WG CD. All the solos are excellent. Sounds like a stereo recording using two mics. Not great but not bad at all.
Been nice catching up on this thread having been a little busy / distracted the past 10 days or so. Working from home, now listening to Diz and Getz (Verve Records, 1955 / 90s? CD)
NP Joe Pass - Virtuoso #3 (Pablo) Lovely solo guitar for the first music of the day and a little white tea. I had never considered Pass for my early morning spins but I think that changes today.
This afternoon, a great album. There is such an overload of "Beatles" in this forum that I think I haven't played nothing related since I signed up. But I'm a long time fan. Have every album. And this solo effort by John Lennon is an all time classic. There are more who like it
Bottle of beer and Bennie Moten. This volume is material from 1928-9. Enjoying Vernon Page's umpah-ing on tuba holding down the rhythm section. Bennie Moten's Kansas City Orchestra "Kansas City Breakdown" The Victor Recordings Vol. 2 (Frog, 1999 CD)
Hoorah - I got my first original press Blue Note! I don't usually abide "organ music", but this was the first affordable Liberty I've come across on Fleabay. When I saw Grant Green, George Coleman, AND Lee Morgan were involved, I took a punt. Reuben steers them into some pretty deep "cheese" on some of the heads. But it's tolerable. And once clear there is some compelling soloing from all parties. The sound is SWEET.
I've been slowly picking up the Joe Henderson albums he made for Milestone and got Black Miracle on vinyl, and At The Lighthouse (being the full live date that produced part of In Pursuit of Blackness and If You're Not Part of the Solution the other day. Just Black Narcissus to get. But now playing this...
1970 Reissue w' VAN GELDER stamp Ladies and Gentleman I give you Mr Billy Higgins - Laying it down A MILE WIDE on the title track. Hot. Damn.
A little late to this topic, but Blues in Trinity is one of those records that just kinda sinks in after a few listens. I have a King and Connoisseur and the latter is far superior. Soundin' Off has some nice moments too...I also have the Classic.
With Christian McBride, Chick Corea, Freddie Hubbard. Have had it in my car for a week and can't seem to hit eject.
There are some nice new Blue Note Original Album sets at great prices being released. I have Morgan and McLean sets so far from amazon.it with Shepp on the way. They have late August release dates on amazon.com.
