With a repertoire like that, what was the occasion?

Curious what your Weather Report and Daniel Lanois cuts/lps were.
Sounds like a very fun three hours you had. I envy most dj's who
    can work independently.

    I wish, but it is something I dreamily think about, emphasis on dreamily;
have for years. Opportunity comes knocking I will meet it as fully as possible.

Bill Evans on Fender Rhodes ! (The Bill Evans Album (c) 1971.

Picked up an original copy for 50p in a local charity shop awhile back - a few pops a bit of crackle.....and a load of snap !

It may be possible to get involved with a college station in your area or one of the low power stations (that are hard to learn about). Many of those actually do not give you total freedom, but some do.

There is an album released by Italian pianist Enrico Pieranunzi dedicated to Shorter's compositions.
It is not easy to find it.

I have a friend who moved from San Francisco to Tampa to keep the freedom to play what he wants. The station he was at in SF changed format. Now he does the midnight to 4AM show in Tampa.

Like you I prefer listening to proper albums. But I'm building this George Duke sideman compilation because:

    - love what he was doing at the beginning of the 70s. Unfortunately I think he got lost in commercial sounds soon after.

    - it's an excuse to play several other artists/albums that I like: Cannonball, Eddie Henderson, Joe Henderson, Sonny Rollins...

    - it's an opportunity to listen to "new-to-me" albums.

    - and it's very easy with Spotify to create such a list (I only have some of the CDs).

So my 3rd pick is Galaxy, from Sunburst

Not my favorite Eddie Henderson album, but still very good.

The list of players on that track is impressive: people from Mwandishi, Headhunters, Bobby Hutcherson...
Bennie Maupin on bass clarinet is creepy.

Tracks like this have what I search in "fusion".

@Yesternow have you ever listened to this one? Barney Plays Kessel

I think you might dig it. Not the style that immediately comes to mind when I think of Kessel but I think he transitioned a bit during the 60s and into the 70s. This one's got Jimmy Rowles all over some keyboards (Rhodes...?). The style is a bit like some of those Mainstream releases with some CTI thrown in - no strings though. Never knew Kessel could jam some Brazilian rhythms like this, with some R&B and grit mixed in too. Very nice record.

Just a typical night for me actually. I spin at a friend's cidery tasting room once or twice a week ffrom 6-9 or 10. So it's a not a real dj gig with dancing, sweaty bodies everywhere like a club. I have a pretty cool crowd, many regulars who are pretty open to whatever I play although some would prefer Tom Petty to Randy Weston. Some nights are more jazz than others depending on who's there and how they're responding to the music. I have a blast.

I played Nubian Sundance and Cucumber Slumber from Mysterious Traveler and The Maker and Amazing Grace from Lnaois's first lp although Amazing Grace was a little too atmospheric tbh although I love the track. I am sometimes surprised which tracks work and which don't. For the most part if it has a groove people dig it. Daptone label titles work really well. I just watch the crowd to see if they're moving to the music and adjust accordingly.

Usually I have some restrictions regarding the facial hair choices of the artists I play. But I'll open an exception this time and I'll check it (online).
    Thanks Bobby :)

 I hear you - that Kessel pic is right out of a bad photo album and doesn't fit the music at all. I wouldn't have picked it up if I hadn't listened to samples first.
