You‘re welcome. This album should also work fine with serious Mexican drinking.

And if you want to stick to the (dying) tradition of the Mexican Cantina: Keep in mind that minors, women, and official uniforms were not allowed in these places. Also, the food was always free and got heavier and greasier over the night. Last not least, you were not supposed to leave the place as long as you were still able to stand on your feet.

I've been on a bit of a Jim Hall kick lately. Went to a brick and mortar today and picked up Concierto and Storyteller (a double disc repackaging of Circles [1981] and All Across the City [1989]). Both new and sealed. Currently listening to All Across the City and it's very nice. There's some 80s synths here and there but i kind of like that (YMMV). I'd seen Storyteller on the shop's website and was slightly apprehensive that it may be a Concord CDR, was stoked to find that it wasn't.

This is a list of releases on the short lived (1960-61 in its original phase) Candid label
I have noticed a bunch of these in my collection. I marvel at the roster for such a small mom and pop shop.

The label made an impact on jazz, no doubt.

It os predicted to dip below freezing tonight by a few degrees. Of course it has been warm enough to set off budbreak in some plants. I had to move some pots in the garage and brought a few small things in doors. So I'm feelng a bit chilly tonight and decided to join my favorite Swedish pianist. I've been playing this more recently after finding it from a misfile. He's probably in colder weather than me. Heh. Not to mention many posting here. Pay no mind to me.

Norris Turney - Big Sweet N' Blue (Mapleshade)
Norris took over Johnny Hodge's spot in Ellington's Orchestra but he played with many others as well as Broadway pit work and Ray Charles and other r&b groups so he is well seasoned as they say. The band is classic hard bop.
    Norris - as
    Larry Willis - p
    Walter Booker - b
    Jimmy Cobb - d
The title says it all. He's got a big sound and he loves the blues.

There’s a moment where Griffin is soloing out of his head on Rhythm-a-ning and Haynes and Abdul Malek are right there with him and Monk just lays off playing and listens for several verses and I swear you can see still him smiling through the decades. He was having such fun here at the 5 Spot.
When he finally stars playing he comps off what Griffin was comping off of Himself earlier

I’ve not been paying much attention to Monk lately, but your description there has got me thinking I’ll join you in listening to this one shortly.

Grant Green - Street Of Dreams (Blue Note) Music Matters 45 RPM Pressing
I went from Norris/Street of Dreams to Grant's version on his album. Different worlds, no right or wrong but a demonstration of how jazz changes a song. Oherwise it wouldn't be jazz, right?

    Re: Monk
I love all of his different phases of his career.

I think I listened to “Lazy Afternoon” something close to 10 times last night. First, Helen Merrill’s version a bunch of times and then Grant’s version a bunch.

Since I have the tenor box out I’m tempted to put on Misterioso, but I’m having an overpowering urge to put on this instead:

    Thelonious Monk - It’s Monk’s Time (Columbia/Legacy CD)

I’m just noticing that my CD has a yellow Columbia “Jazz Masterpiece” hype sticker for a Miles Davis album and a silver Miles 75th Anniversary sticker on the front.
