Some of those who stuck around through the twists and turns since have probably come around, but of my small circle of prog loving friends at the time a lot had trouble with Van Der Graaf's "Vital".

I was thinking of that one and wondering if I'd like it now. I didn't like it when I first got it, and eventually sold it off.

I've always really liked Zappa/Mothers Live at Fillmore, but I see it consistently rank at the bottom of Zappa's live stuff and at the bottom of his overall albums as well. That said, I wouldn't play it around certain people due to language and subject matter, so I can see why some don't like it, but it's a fun album with some interesting banter. Also has a goofy live version of Peaches En Regalia with the Turtle guys "singing" along. Also it has Volman and Kaylan doing Happy Together, with Zappa and his band!

I love this album which was in my very heavy rotation when released. Read some less than complimentary reviews.

It is criticized a lot for the fact one can hear hiss and buzz noises from the amplifiers and some occasional knocks and bumps from the stage gear. I personally love this and enjoy it much more that the later and "cleaner" Steppenwolf Live set.

Guns N’ Roses - Live Era... I know a lot of it was reworked and re-recorded, but I still don’t mind it despite all the flack it tends to get. It’s a great peak behind the curtain into what Axl’s late 90’s vocals would’ve sounded like on an album.

Allmusic.com gives it 3 and a half stars. You must be quoting from an old Allmusic book. I wish Live From Deep In The Heart Of Texas would get remastered. It's a very quiet CD.

Came in to also say The Song Remains The Same. It's by far the best representation of Zep live on the '73 tour. I've heard a ton of boots and the album is still king, especially with all the additional tracks. Seek out the Heywood version.

I was cynically reading this thread thinking, nobody is producing a shred of evidence that "others despise" these examples, but then by the time I got this far I realized that yep, *I* despise most of 'em.

Don't know what to tell ya. I don't check back regularly to make sure reviews have or haven't changed.

But "Armadillo Stomp" on Live From Deep In The Heart Of Texas is crazy distorted. But yeah, I dig the record. Actually, all the CC stuff could stand a quality remaster box set treatment.

Black Sabbath Live At Last. The band are not fans at ALL, though I'm sure manager politricks have much to do with their hatred for it. For years, it was the only "legit" live release by the classic lineup. To me, it's a pretty Faithfull document on how the band sounded on most evenings during that tour cycle.
It sounds like a great bootleg, which is probably why it's one of those love/hate albums. Imagine if they released a 75 show in say 76. It was a huge mistake not to release a live one during their heyday.
