Well, after 2 weeks of listening to the Crown Jewels, by Queen (in a variety of systems - solid state, tubed, headphones)... I'm disturbed. The albums sound perfect. Neutral, balanced, clean, etc. But they are so incredibly dull and lifeless I'd rather listen to an old Hollywood ('93) remaster than this. The life has been completely sucked out of the recordings. I can't understand it - they sound perfect, cymbals crash with full strength, the strings sound detailed and nice... yet everything is so dead. Comparing ANatO to Steve's DCC or the MoFi is frustrating. The MoFi sounds old, yet full of life. The DCC sounds cleaner, and full of life. The Jewel Box remaster is clean, and absolutely boring. Well, at least I only paid $40 for it, and now I have listenable copies of "Jazz" and Queen "II".
