Chris, That's cool - a "Rain" theme compilation CD. You can call it "Pennies From Heaven!". Though, now you probably have too many songs to choose from for 1 CD. A lot of suggestions....

One I haven’t seen...... "No Rain" - By Blind Melon (cool tune!)

Geez, Jimbo. Are you trying to freak me out? I haven't heard (or thought of) that song since I was a kid...

Jimbo: it's not known by many, but Fallin' Rain is actually a Link Wray song, it was on his '70/'71 album titled "Link Wray", and is one of the best songs he ever sang/recorded.

I was working on a CD w/rain songs and most have been already mentioned here. Here's a few others:

The Critters: Come Back On A Rainy Day
The Critters: Don't Let The Rain Fall Down
Deep Purple: One More Rainy Day
The Electric Prunes: Children Of The Rain
Strawberry Alarm Clock: Rainy Day Mushroom Pillow
    Traffic: Rainmaker
The Turtles: You Don't Have To Walk In The Rain
    Nazz: Rain Rider

And Tommy James/Shondells cool instrumental "Thunderbolt" (with thunder effects)! It was only on the B-side of Hanky Panky, but I think it's on a TJ/Shondells best of CD now.

    Chris,

Don't forget to add the Woodstock "mantra":

Maybe if we think real hard...maybe we can stop this rain! No Rain, No Rain...!

Jimbo, I'm surprised you didn't get this one!;) In fact, I'm a little surprised no one has mentioned it.

Steve, maybe some day? (he says with fingers, toes, and shoe laces crossed.):D

    I can't believe another Deadhead hasn't mentioned:

Looks Like Rain - The Grateful Dead (the one from the remastered "Europe 72" is a pretty one)

Mission In The Rain - from Garcia's "Reflections" album.

I guess you could include "Samba In The Rain" except that the Dead never put it on an album, and it's NOT one of my favorites.

And although it has nothing to do with the GD, I keep thinking of that song that says "the rain in Spain falls mainly in the plain..."

Is that a cover of the John Hiatt song off Slow Turning? That 's a beautiful song.

Err, Rain by Uriah Heep, as found on the Magician's Birthday album. A nice piano ballad.

Or do an AMG search for "track title" and "rain" :)

    Dave,
I saw Buddy Guy live in 1968(69) when he opened up for Led Zep ! I was blown away! Never forgot his playing. Loved the balloon.

For recorded rain effects, try the opening of the title track "Black Sabbath", from the band's self-titled debut LP.

    Mandolin Rain - Bruce Hornsby

Saw a Bruce concert in 96', very good performance. Stage (band) was on a turntable.

Awesome lists! You guys are the best. Thank you. It seems I will probably have to do a 2 CD set, as there were a lot more songs than I thought.

OOH! Just thought of a couple more:

    Surrender The Rain
    Play in the Rain

    Both by Lindsay Buckingham

I recommend all of his solo albums for anyone wanting to hear great songs and incredible sonics. They are amazing with headphones!

    Um...maybe...did it work? :)

An old campfire classic, to be sure! "Uh uh, oh no, don't let the rain come down/my roof's got a hole in it and I might da-rown..."

I didn't know that! I love the Neville's version. Is Wray's version on CD? If so, I may already own it!
