Ah, I see. Sorry if I came off a bit cross, I was trying (and failing, obviously) at being a bit funny ;) I appologize for being both crude and crass. And maybe a bit purile in my thoughts.

No, I've never read that theory anywhere before, but I've always heard the song that way because of all the underlined passages combined. And after all, it was written in a period where Bob was at his most cantankerous and deranged because of his diet. He went after the gay community when he was born again too. A bit like Jerry Falwell...

The Political World of Bob Dylan

Then again, I didn't mean to bring a (semi)serious subject into a thread that was supposed to be about fun and games. Best regards, Sir.

Oh.. I was moved by your screen dream
    Celluloid pictures of living
Your death could not kill our love for you
    Take two people, romantic
    Smokey nightclub situation
    Your cigarette traces a ladder
    Here's looking at you kid
    Celebrate years
    Here's looking at you kid
    Wipe away tears
    Long time since we're together
    Now I hope it's forever

    Ideal love flies away now
White tie, mmm black tails wings too
You gave her away to the hero
    Words don't express my meaning
Notes could not spell out the score
But finding not keeping's the lesson
    Here's looking at you kid
    Hard to forget
    Here's looking at you kid
    At least not yet
    Your memory stays
    It lingers ever
    Will fade away never

Little Lighthouse by Dukes of Stratosphear has a line that I just love:

"Across the black and fossil ocean vast,
I spy love and she doth brightly burn."

Love the part about the "fossil ocean." In fact, every line in this song is really great, beautiful poetry.

Barclay James Harvest - Loving Is Easy

Even the bad times are good when you're around
Darlin', you kiss away all my blues
Even the hard times are easy to face
'Cause I know that your love will come through

You light up my flame, then you drive me insane
There ain't nothing that you cannot do
Then you rip up my heart, you just tear it apart
As I shoot all my love into you

Lovin' is easy with both eyes closed
You know that's the best way to feel it
Lovin' is easy with both eyes closed
Just get a hold and watch how it grows

Even the bad times are good when you're around
Darlin', you kiss away all my blues
Even the hard times are easy to face
'Cause I know that your love will come through

You tear up my soul and then fill up the whole
Of your being, your love, your desire
Then you grab for my heart and just tear it apart
As I shoot all my love in your fire

Lovin' is easy with both eyes closed
You know that's the best way to feel it
Lovin' is easy with both eyes closed
Just get a hold and watch how it grows

Also from BJH, same album in fact - Sip Of Wine

On the road and I'm feeling low
Got a ticket for my way back home
I start to feel like a rolling stone
    Without company

Down in the bar talking to the trees
I found a lady hanging on my sleeve
I said, "I thank you but I have to leave"
She said, "Stay with me, I need company...
Take a sip of my wine
It's gonna make you feel fine
Come tomorrow, leave it all behind."

    I didn't see a warning sign
I held her breath and she was holding mine!
I think I'll be here for a long, long time
If you stay with me, got to be
Take a sip of my wine
It's gonna make you feel fine
Come tomorrow, leave it all behind."

Several parts of No Action by Elvis Costello are double entendres

    I don't wanna kiss you
    I don't wanna touch
    I don't wanna see you
'Cause I don't miss you that much

    I'm not a telephone junkie
I told you that we were just good friends
But when I hold you like I hold
    That Bakelite in my hands

    There's no action
    There's no action
    There's no action
And ev'ry time I phone you
I just wanna put you down

He's got the keys to the car
They are the keys to the kingdom
    He's got ev'rything you need
It's a shame that he didn't bring them

    I'm not a telephone junkie
If I'm inserting my coin I'm doing just fine
And the things in my head
    Start hurtin' my mind

And I think about the way things used to be
Knowing you with him is driving me crazy
Sometimes I phone you when I know you're not lonely
But I always disconnect it in time

    There's no action
    There's no action
    There's no action
And ev'ry time I phone you
    I just wanna put you

And ev'ry time I phone you
    I just wanna put you
And ev'ry time I phone you
I just wanna put you down

    There's no action
    There's no action

Could just be playing with traditional gender role expectations in 1970s era Britain. A woman who can talk like a man? A woman who challenges assumptions? A woman who can be a woman but on her own terms? A woman who can stand up to a man? It could simply be a pro-feminist song. Also, who is to say that the line 'and ...' is the start of a new sentence? Use a comma to separate the two lines and it makes much more sense (as I intended to when I wrote my post)

A woman I know says that, in this song, the narrator's boyfriend dumped her and changed the locks. She wont let go and keeps pestering him. The narrator is a 'bonkers' female stalker.

ok, I guess all this is possible but still, the author of the song is in love with Lola and saying 'girls will be boys' is a slag in that context, not pro-feminist at all.
I'm sure many women physically pick up men and set them on their knee lol. not to mention nearly crushing your spine when they grab you....what a fun thread.
but if we are to take the song at face value, 'we drank champagne and danced all night' soon followed by 'I pushed her away' seems odd, if this is just a strong woman. Now, wouldn't it be obvious to him from the get go she's a strong woman? Why would he push her away after partying all night long at the club? haha

Not necessarily a slag, just someone who is strong, imo. He clearly likes her. In the line you quote, I think that it reflects the idea that some men do push women away after the fun, perhaps? Repulsion after the hormones subside? Not sure - I know this is known to be about a man and a transvestite, but I'm just saying – I do wonder.

I think, reflective of the times, there's double entendre to keep the obvious on the down low:)
my point tho is that it's not feminist to say 'girls will be boys' just the opposite. ...and pushing her away after a fun evening is never explained unless....
...ultimately I do believe ....she's a MAN, baby!

Some of my favorite eye-rollers come from Van Halen's "Hot for Teacher"

"Teacher needs to see me after school"
"I think of all the education that I missed, but then my homework was never quite like this"
"I brought my pencil! Gimme something to write on!"

  21. Another one from the descriptive imagery dept.:

    "Last night I was cool
    at the pool hall
Held the table for eleven games
    Nothing was easier
    than the first seven
I beat a woman with varicose veins.

    She stopped to see
    herself in the mirror
Fix her hair and hide heir veins
    And she lost the game"

    - Neil Young, 'Sedan Delivery'

A fine load of filth from Skyclad. I give you Spinning Jenny

She came down from the Western Hills when we were not prepared
I turned deaf ears to words of warning now I'm running scared.
Casting caution to the wind now that the cat's away
I say my grace, fill my face (then for forgiveness pray).
God knows I was an honest man, the same as any other
Who loved his wife, worked all his life to keep his family
Until the 'beast' that never sleeps beneath my silken covers
Reared its head and bit its thumb at my morality.

    [Chorus]
Her passion for passion, it will devour
Cruel are the thorns of this delicate flower
Her lust for lust, it will consume
A siren song summons all men to their doom.

She whispered of her innocence (a plea I must contest)
While baptizing helpless sinners with a missionary zest
She will exorcise your demons, then exercise your thighs
Await your 'second-coming' with a hunger in her eyes.

Her sweetmeats are the souls of men, she'll gorge herself to bursting
And for yours her heart is thirsting, as a spider craves a fly
No mortal man could ever hope to suit her as a suitor
She'll rewrite the Kama Sutra if you'd care to watch her try.

    [Chorus]

I reach for heaven, desire drags me down
When fools choose their king I'll be heir to that crown
A strange kind of madness I cannot condone
If you are without sin come cast the first stone.

Clearly "paddle" is a code word for "plunger". Pre-automation, the dairy business was a complicated one.
