Premiere in September? It's already on.

I know. The actress seems like such a sweet person, and I really like the character, but my opinion of her did drop a few notches when I found out.

Interesting. I don't know any of these folks from Adam. All I know is that most of them are delivering top-notch acting performances. As people, though, I have no opinion of them whatsoever.

  5. Oh, as for me, I don't care if she worships pomegranate seeds. I just know after learning about this that it's going to take a lot of begging on her part to get me to go out with her.

The first episode is free-no strings attached...the remaining ones you need to log in with AMC (requires your cable-tv contract #).

No, it's May 1970. Says so on Don's million dollar check. "The Odd Couple" doesn't premiere until September, 1970.

If Paul Kinsey can join a cult, so can Peggy... :)

Back to the show....I wonder who is going to explode first on clients over sexist comments, Joan or Peggy? Joan gives the evil eye, and Peggy tries to ignore it.

The latest round of sexist comments came from McCann-Erickson employees, not a client. That's why neither Peggy nor Joan said anything; McCann owns their firm now.

I think from Day 1, the show has been about sophisticated but neurotic ad people whose business is selling people things they don't necessarily want... and none of the ad people ever wind up getting what they really want in their lives. In a lot of cases, they don't know what they want until they can't have it anymore.

I stand corrected, but it's going to continue onto clients as well. It's been building each season.

I will say that Peggy will crack first---she is Don's protege and Don never took any crap from clients, even if it cost them the client's business. Joan still believes acting above it all is the best policy.

I liked Don's wistful look back at Betty's family interacting in the kitchen, like he might be thinking how nice that she has that and sad that he doesn't.

  17. I usually don't mind unless they shove it down our throats. I do love Beck and he's a member....

Did anyone else notice a little anachronism in this episode?

  20. Barcodes. Not until like, the mid-70s or some such. One of the rare anachronisms in Mad Men. A true find.

I'm amazed it slipped past them. We snapped this capture off the TV screen.
Also at first I thought the MICR code on the check might be an issue but they were in use in 1970.

If I read it correctly, Don's address on the check is 783 Park Ave. Address doesn't exist in NYC. 755 Park is on the SE corner of Park & 72nd. 785 is on the NE corner. Not important. Just noticed.

    (edited to correct typo)

The # would place the apartment (approximately) in the 70s. (1049, home of Oscar and Felix - the exterior shots in the opening, anyway, is between 86th and 87th.) In the 70s Park and 2nd Avenue run parallel to each other and are separated by 3rd Avenue and Lexington Avenue. Unless they moved things around since I left. :)
