If that's the actual line, then yeah, that makes no sense. Pete looked like a white Carlton Banks from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

My brain probably just assumed I heard it wrong and corrected it mentally.

Indeed. Heck, he's still wearing an Eisenhower-era hat in 1969. Even my dad had given up his hat before then.

Even if it's to show how "square" Don is, it doesn't make sense. Pete looked pretty much how any New York WASP might be dressed for a weekend in the Hamptons or some tennis playing. It wouldn't be a foreign style to Don.

I think it's time for Don and Pete to meet David Crosby and Dennis Hopper, or the fictional equivalents

Looks like the wardrobe department didn't read the script.

I haven't rewatched it but I remember Don saying basically "you don't dress like a hippie but you're talking like one."

    Looking forward to Sunday night.

This is such a great blog, thanks for posting it.

Liked his comment about Pete's style:
I was coming of age squarely in the Regan era and this kind of stuff was THE thing, along with the professor look with knit ties and corduroy jackets. I had no idea it dated back so far, and to California. So cool.

Makes perfect sense to me. Hell I remember my mom calling all sorts of people 'hippies' who didn't look like hippies at all. And this was in the 80s. Square.

Then that's the oddest line in the whole show so far.

one thing I noticed is they seem to be paying for musical licensing or at least being allowed to license music that really was on the radio i.e Steve Winwood and Vanilla Fudge.

I agree, which is why you and I both thought we misheard and that he actually said it in a way that made sense.

They licensed the Beatles last season. You've got to have a serious music budget to do that.

I can't remember, is Harry Crane in LA now, too? I just realized they didn't show or mention him in the season premiere.

Also, in one of the bonus clips that came with my iTunes download, Matt Weiner mentions that this season picks up a mere eight weeks or so after season six, compared to the usual gap of at least six months.

  23. Remember Don is the older generation now and anything different he'll reference to as hippie it something. Remember the Beatles revolver LP didn't really wow him like it did for younger Meghan

    This.

It's why I sneer when some long haired musician of the 60's proclaims "I was never a Hippie"
    Billions would differ

Don also thought these guys were The Beatles:

Think Don's comment about Pete looking like a Hippie was meant as a light-hearted joke to Pete. But, still, Don is and has been L7 for a few years.
