Please explain. Can you interpret the OP rules any clearer?

I'm not sure how "well known" my Dutch favorite is but here goes...

The Ex. GREAT BAND! (yes I'm shouting)

The Ex started out as an underground postpunk/no wave band in 1979.

The Ex have over two dozen albums plus numerous singles and collaborations
including Sonic Youth, Tortoise, Tom Cora (!), Han Bennink, Chumbawamba, Dog Faced Hermans and saxophonist Getatchew Mekiura.

The Ex have several "must have" records but my favorites are
    Joggers and Smoggers
    Hands Up Your Free
    Scrabbling At The Lock

Excuse me, but can anyone please tell me what's going on? Members not being allowed to post Dutch songs that otherwise won't be heard by foreign audiences..? Wasn't that the purpose?
Isn't this a bit like not being allowed to use a waterhose while you're on fire?

    My favorite Dutch artists/records:

The Shocking blue: Never marry a railroad man (excellent!), Venus and Mighty Joe.
    The Outsiders
George Baker selection: Little greenback, a ridiculous record which turns out to be sublime.

I guess it's Little Green Bag. Probably very well know as it was used in the soundtrack of a Tarantino movie.

Bettie Serveert is – I think – "alternative". I wouldn't recognise its members and I can't hum a tune. As far as I know no top 10 hits.

I am inspired to listen to more Focus, haven't heard that in a while. And maybe track down some more Golden Earring bootlegs. And use some Old Dutch Cleanser. And watch some old Ronald "Dutch" Reagan movies...

Oh, and since the thread is hijacked, can I mention The Beatles now?

Pussycat. Dutch country rock, playing pedal steel with a gun. Loved these gals as a kid. They also had a hit with My Broken Souvenirs. I can see OP's head exploding.

The SHFourm always cracks me up.

Dutch thread starts...people post favourite Dutch songs...then thread gets almost shut because people like bands such as Focus which are deemed too popular when 99% of the English-speaking population would never have heard of them.

A good thread will almost always take on a life if it's own.

Yes yes yes. How did I not think of them first?

There is/was a great band I used to gig with called Persil. Don't know if they're still going, but two of the nicest folks I met on the circuit.

    Persil music * releases

Ok, this may seem like I'm taking the p*ss, but I swear I'm not: I think this song by Kinderen Voor Kinderen has a very pretty melody and affecting lyrics.

Here in the Netherlands Bettie Serveert is still a small indie band. Their tours are club tours, selling out a few but not all of the places they're playing. Their last three albums went #23, #30 and #42 respectively (according to Wikipedia) and they can walk around without being recognized.

Excatly. I just joked with the (supposedly) real lyric.

Everything is now allowed here. This thread ended indeed as a kind of shipwreck (my fault, thought my intention with this thread was clear), but is now.... a ship of fools:

People posting now also real commercial ****, dreadfull songs dressed as guilty pleasures and even children songs, ...yes, this will help the members at the other side of the pond to learn more about the arty quality of the Dutch music culture...

Maybe time for pointing my original intention:
    1. Me posting a Dutch pop/rock gem 99.99 percent of the members never have heard of.
    2. Trying to get the opinion of non-Dutch members about that song
    3. Me posting another Dutch gem
    4. Another time trying to get your opinion about that posted song
    5. etc.

Pity enough I failed to make my intention clear. Maybe I did write my first posts too soon, afraid someone would post allready between my first (the intention) and second post (the first gem I liked to discuss). And maybe my English failed tragically, that's what you can get as being a non native speaker English...

For the rest all I can do:

    :-popcorn:

(and wait patiently for the end of this thread)
