Unless it's on some odd-ball 80's mix comp.
    @thecdguy may know
Shep did a nice job on it
Since you prefer cassettes, it's on the US cassette single as well as the promo cd

I had a mini cd single of this (and Cherish), it was a bit gimmicky but it had good mixes on it. I either have it somewhere in the loft or sold on ebay.

Looks like the promo CD listed on Discogs might be the only place. I have the promo for "Like a Prayer" but not "EY", unfortunately.

It's not on the 3" CD single I have, and "Remixed Prayers" has other versions of "EY" but not the 7".

There's a Japanese 2-track 3" that may have it but it's not clear - I can't tell from the image which version appears on the CD...

As I note above, the German 3" doesn't have the 7" remix. The Japanese one might but I can't (live to) tell...

So basically a single that sold well and became a major hit didn't contain the single mix on the CD single. It makes you wonder what the point of the mix was.

And at the time (1989), US record labels rarely released commercial CD singles.

Only issued on US promo. The video mix hasn't ever been on CD at all. Very annoying but typical Madonna.

Someone on the Pat Downey boards did a really thorough analysis of Madonna's single versions and their availability on CD, and they concluded that the single version of "Express Yourself" is indeed only available on that promo CD single. They also said the Japan CD single used the album version of the song. I remember looking the promo up on Discogs several months ago and it was available, but very expensive. You can expect to pay at least $50 and most likely more if/when it becomes available again.

I imagine most of the ones they DID release at the time were 3"CD singles? I believe the format was being tried out by the labels at that time.

Also eBay. They and Discogs are my go-to sites when I look for rare CD singles.

It was released commercially (45 and cassette single), just not on CD. As has been pointed out above, the labels weren't releasing that many CD singles at the time.

If you're asking if the 7" Remix can be considered as the single version despite not having airplay on radio or TV, that just depends on personal opinion. There's been many occasions over the years where the commercial single was different than what was played on the radio. It's up to the individual as to what they think of as the "correct" hit/single version.

No, the 3 incher's I have around those years are all DADC Austria manufactured
Patience is the key however for sure when tracking down promo's. Sometimes they show up without the seller knowing what they have. Took me years to find Xymox-Imagination 1989 US Promo for under 10 bucks

I have the CD promo of Express Yourself. For some reason the 7" versions of Madonna's hit singles were frequently not included on the CD singles (or Maxi CDs) - Like A Prayer 7" version was included on the long out of print CD longbox but Cherish 7" version was never even released on CD. The 7" version of Keep It Together was also not on the Maxi CD but was released on a Back to Back CD single lateron.

If the 7" version and the Fade version is the same, I stand corrected.
