Manic Street Preachers To Re-Issue 'This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours'

Manic Street Preachers have confirmed they will re-issue their 1998 album 'This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours'.

The cargo-pant clad record just celebrated its 20th birthday, with hits such as 'If You Tolerate This...' remaining evergreen facets of the Welsh group's catalogue.

Speaking to the NME, Nicky Wire revealed that the three-piece intend to re-issue the album, complete with a few bonuses.

"James (Dean Bradfield) has remastered it, I found all the demos," he said. "They’re amazing – all on cassettes, recorded in someone’s front room. We’ve put (B-side) ‘Prologue To History’ on the album now and kicked off ‘Nobody Loved You’. We’ve moved that onto disc two with a great demo that we’ve found."

"It’s packed full of really interesting and intimate stuff, as well as us in the studio and off the leash on certain songs like ‘Tsunami’ that are much more raw. There are some amazing remixes too – by people like Mogwai, Massive Attack and Cornelius. It was a great period where people would take your work and transform it into something really special."

Nicky Wire admits that Manic Street Preachers could go back out on the road to support the re-release. "We might do one next year," he said. We’re looking into it now. We might do some really nice old-school dates of our favourite venues – nothing too gigantic. I just finished the artwork off and that’s looking really nice."

It appears the album will suffer the same fate as Send Away the Tigers 10th Anniversary by removing a track (Underdogs) and sticking in a b-side. I love Welcome to the Dead Zone, it makes a great second song on that albums and it should've been on the original release, but without Underdogs this isn't the version I grew to love. Same thing with Nobody Loved You, I really like the song. Prologue To History is a good song as well, but not sure how well this fits in the album. This leads me to think that the band is regretting some song choices from the original albums or else they would've added them where they saw fit as bonus songs, but they are actually replacing songs, can't say I'm on board with this. Anyways, I will of course get this and enjoy it as much as SATT last year, content-wise, not so much sound-wise.

Yeah, I don't really care for this kind of revisionism, where the excised track isn't included at all (demos don't count). Like, it'd be one thing if they bumped "Revolution 9" off the White Album, but "Underdogs" and "Nobody Loved You" are perfectly fine tracks that have no real reason to get booted. (reordered, perhaps, but not removed)

Prologue to History is one of my favorite Manics songs, but why mess with the album as it was known for 20 years. Everyone who will buy this type of anniversary release probably already has the original.

Thanks - yes, the CDs look like the 2009 releases. Not sure about the box though....
Seller has a good reputation despite his location.

  9. In any event, it'll be interesting to see how they manage to make the sound even harsher.

I love that alternate artwork. Shame there's no box though! Also a shame that they cannot seem to just use one format. SATT was a digibook, Holy Bible/Everything Must Go were boxsets available everywhere, Generation Terrorists was only available via the Manics store etc.

Looking forward to this to be honest. The last great album they made IMO. Will wait for an opinion on the sound of the vinyl but will probably get the CD box. Can't see them giving this treatment to any subsequent albums so still hoping there will be an expanded 'Gold Against The Soul' at some point. Also agree that replacing 'Nobody Loved You' with 'Prologue To History' is foolish. The album is slightly short on 'bangers' as it is!

If the most recent re-issue of Everything Must Go is any indication, they are up to the challenge.

So was anyone able to pre-order the signed CDs/LPs? I don't see that option anywhere so the must've sold out.

BTW, it seems that the CD is packaged in some kind of 7" book?

If they insist on messing with the track list, the unlistenable S.Y.M.M. should have been sacrificed.. ‘Black Dog On My Shoulder’ would be a perfect closer.

See, I love “S.Y.M.M.” and find it to be a perfect album closer. Personally, if I were to choose a song from the album to replace, my vote would go to “Born A Girl”, which has always been my least favorite track on the album. But, the fact that so many people have such different opinions as to what song is the album’s worst is shows that the band shouldn’t be replacing songs at all. I love “Prologue To History”, but if they want it to be in the album they should just add it in (I think having it sequenced between “Black Dog On Your Shoulder” and “Nobody Loved You” would work best) and not replace any of the album’s existing songs with it.

I haven't had a chance to listed to the set yet...just ripped the CD's.
