I picked up a compilation called All The Hits And More cheaply, on the suspicious-sounding "Star Direct" label. Any opinions on this release? It's perfect for me - Electric Warrior, The Slider and Tanx are all I'll ever need and this has some deep cuts from his later albums as well as all his chart hits: http://www.discogs.com/Marc-Bolan-T-Rex-All-The-Hits-And-More/release/1978893
I'm not sure how much involvement The Bramleys had with this one, the 1987 Relativity issues or the 1989 Castle/Marc On Wax (other than licensing). None of these are listing in the Marc On Wax discography. Darryl
Is any of you familiar with the SHM release of Tanx? I can't find information about the mastering of that one. Thanks.
'The Slider SHM is well liked SHM-T Rex-The Slider-Wow! » I only played these once when I received them. Need to pull them out this weekend for a listen. Darryl
I might give it a try, then. I love the album, but the Edsel/Rhino 2-cd, even though it features good dynamics, is badly equalized and sounds too brittle. The 2014 remaster has a richer bottom end, but it has awful dynamics (lots of compression and distortion). So, since I'm not going to be able find an old CD version, I think I'll try the Japanese shm-cd.
Is anyone fond of the Tony Visconti master of The Slider from the Super Deluxe box? You'd think Visconti would know how it should sound.
Well Tony is the original producer so he surely will have done a good job. My The Slider box set has never even been opened. I think I will sell it on these forums.
I thought it was good, though I haven't heard many of the other versions of the album. As far as I know, the Visconti remaster is only available in the big box. I don't think there's an individual CD release of it. Unless someone on here knows different.
Do you listen to Spotify on your PC or stream it to your stereo? I am guessing the later given how impressed you are with the sound.
The one on Spotify reminded me of the Marc On Wax. The low end character was there, but it was more polished sounding and not as dark. More compressed, though.
On the PC, using headphones I'm really familiar with. I can find these three: The "regular" and deluxe versions sound identical (and very thin) to me.
