Had a good role in EdTV. He will be missed. His conversation on morals with Woody Allen in Crimes and Misdemeanors was great!

While "Crimes And Misdemeanors" and "Ed Wood" are obvious highlights, I'll always have a soft spot for everything "North By Northwest", so that's my ultimate Martin.

    RIP.

For many people in the UK of a certain age he will always be Commander Koenig.

And that's the episode we just watched on our DVD set of THE OUTER LIMITS. That show, "The Man Who Was Never Born" is a splendid example of the greatness of THE OUTER LIMITS and a showcase for the acting talents of Martin Landau. Though I have all of the MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE episodes on DVD, it was this episode I chose to celebrate this great actor's career.

I always liked him in Nevada Smith; of course, he had worked with Steve McQueen before in Wanted: Dead or Alive's 2nd season episode "The Monster."

That was his film debut. It's quite a debut - he's fantastic in the role.

I read today that he was one of two actors to be admitted to The Actor's Studio the year he entered, the other being . . . Steve McQueen. And here's an interview where he brings it up:

Martin Landau on his acting life with James Dean, Steve McQueen and now Christopher Plummer

He simply made everything he was in so much better imo. He was a genious in Ed Wood. I also loved him in Rounders, as the judge. He was in some minor movies as well, but always elevated them to professional. He will be missed.

I first noticed he had really stepped up to deliver a great performance in Tucker.

Allen's best film and Landau's best performance.

Over the weekend I watched a couple of Martin Landau appearances on MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE. DECADES ran a weekend-long Binge of Landau episodes, but I found what I wanted on Amazon prime in HD, or on my own DVDs. We also watched the late-70s disaster flick METEOR in which Landau played a hawkish general standing in Sean Connery's way. And we started it all with his excellent turn in THE OUTER LIMITS "The Man Who Was Never Born".
