Paul would never criticize one of his own best reworking, i.e. Can't Buy Me Country Love,

I have to give it to Paul's camp, they have gone deep and silent for a long time.

Plus no advance help until the Blue meanies are done doing their fiendish thingies!!!!!

It's actually Paul & the Rockestra II.

That's why it's taking so long... trying to schedule all those guys in one place at the same time is hard...

    WRONG
Since it's obviously his last project, the album will contain a Wings reunion, a Beatles reunion and a Fireman reunion. And Rockestra, AAAND... last, but not least- the frog chorus.
The wings reunion will be based around an unfinished Linda demo, and to ensure that classic Band On The Run feel, Denny Laine has minimal contribution and Paul overdubs most of the instruments.

As for the Beatles reunion track, the REAL Paul McCartney has reluctantly agreed to perform from his wheel chair, and Dhani will take ol' Georgie's place and Axl Rose (not Julian) will take John's place, as it's currently trendy to use him as a band replacement, and we all know how Paul likes trendy. Ringo will do his usual two-drummer approach in an all-out drum dual with Pete Best, who's drums will then be edited out but don't worry, Pete fans! He WILL be asked to play electric triangle on it, which is buried in the mix.

The album will conclude with an emotional return of the frog chorus, the Beatles, Wings, Kanye West AND Rockestra all in one climactic setting, where there are sections with a frog solo.

MAN, talk about going out with a bang! ***can't wait***

You can't forget Whoopi, whose vocals will be turned up all the way to represent her well known connection to the Beatles, as well as the track's coda where Paul and Whoopi duet on "Puttin' on the Style" and "Baby Let's Play House."

    Such an amazing pic.
Its incredible how Dolly and Porter look like cartoons compared to the McCartney's who just look so regular...

Now that we're in mid-April it is increasingly unlikely that the new McCartney album will be released in the first half of 2018. According to this thread McCartney is working on new tracks since early 2016. So there should be quite a lot of music to choose from.

Maybe McCartney plans his personal companion piece to the Beatles' "White Album", consisting of two discs with a wide range of styles and genres. Released in conjunction with a "WA" box set (maybe one or two months before the latter) there could be an effective marketing strategy: "The Beatles 1968" - "McCartney 2018". Who knows?

Paul could absolutely still get another number one solo album. A good comparison would be with Kylie (Minogue)
Kylie's new album is no 1 this week and she is now equal with Macca with six UK no 1 albums, Kylie has spent 419 weeks in the top 75 charts to Macca's 410 weeks.
Of course Kylie is younger than Paul, but at 50 years of age and a 30 year music career she is also now a heritage act (meaning no more hit singles).
As you said it is in the timing, release dates for albums are usually set months in advance, and if you end up with the same release date as a newer/younger/more popular artist its bad luck. But a no 1 album (whilst still alive) is still a possibility.
