Baird comes from a family with deep roots in the folk tradition. Baird is the great-great niece of Isaac Garfield "I.G." Greer, a historian and Appalachian folk singer born in 1881. His inclusion on one of the earliest albums issued by the Archive of American Folk Song in the Library of Congress helped expose Baird to folk music at young age while she was taking piano lessons, teaching herself guitar, and listening to Smithsonian Folkways LPs. -wiki

Some really amazing picking--she gets some sweet sounds with her fretwork

I got into Meg Baird and Espers by indirection, through that Heron Oblivion album. A friend mentioned she had a killer psych folk (freak folk) band in Philly. I'm now hooked. The first record is a tad expensive...
Now buying some of her solo stuff.

Did anyone catch either of the Espers reunion shows in August?

I saw the band a 3 times first time around and would love to see them again.

Have taken to listening to Meg's solo material in the car lately. Sublime.

Just got back from the Steve Gunn show with a sit-in by Meg. She elevates everything she's in.
Also got tix to see her with Mary Lattimore coming up soon.

I was sorely tempted to fly out there.
    Hopefully a recording exists.

    That would be great news.

I have a soundboard recording from one of the band's shows in 2005 in Amherst, MA which is great.
