METALLICA To Reissue 'Master Of Puppets' Album In Late 2017 Or Early 2018

METALLICA is planning to reissue its third album, 1986's "Master Of Puppets", before the end of 2017 or early next year. Like the group's first two LPs, 1983's "Kill 'Em All" and 1984's "Ride The Lightning" — both of which were reissued in April 2016 — "Master" is expected to be remastered for the most advanced sound quality and will be available in several formats, including a deluxe box set.

Speaking to Quebec, Canada's Voir, METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich stated about the "Master Of Puppets" reissue: "It should be coming maybe later… We'll try to see if we can get it out at the end of this year.

Which reissues are these? I have the mofi and think they sounded pretty bad.

That's what a typical person anticipating these remasters would say.
As I read most of these posts, I'm just all the more happy to keep all my old Megaforce, MFN, and Elektra CDs. Save my money, AND my hearing!

Great news, I hope they release it in other formats unlike their first two boxes. I would love the album remastered with a concert as discs 2 and 3. The other boxes were packed with stuff I would never heard because of a lack of turntable or lack of interest of interviews. However I can't say I wouldn't buy a huge box of the Justic album, I keep waiting for that one, hopefully a remix included. Thanks for news!

Just bought ride the lightning deluxe this week finally. mostly for the live concert vinyl and the dvd live footage.
I think i am going to sell the box and everything else next month. I just need the two items i mentioned.

Won't buy the kill em all deluxe. Not enough interest for me. Even though i do own the album and like it.

I would definitely buy a master of puppets deluxe...a justice for all deluxe....black album deluxe...and even a load deluxe....after that i am done though.

At this rate, who knows if they will ever get through the rest of the catalog. So RTL & KEA in early 2016, MOP in late 2017/early 2018? We'll be lucky to get AJFA and/or TBA by late 2018 or 2019. So on that schedule, it'll be at least 2025 by the time they get all the way through Load, RL, S&M, GI, SA, & DM. And by then, who knows whether CD's will even still be around?!?

I'd be willing to bet CDs are still around by then...And I'm not sure if they'll be doing Garage Inc. and S&M box-sets. They could, but not sure how well they'd sell.

I could see them doing Load and ReLoad in a single set and perhaps just having it a little more expensive than the others.

I'm excited for a St. Anger set for the potential of some of the Presidio stuff being included, and a Death Magnetic set for the possibility of the 'mastered for iTunes' or Guitar Hero mix getting a physical release.

Well, when they started this remaster series, the poster they had up in record stores showed that they plan to do sets for GI & S&M, so that's straight from the band itself.

As for DM, you can buy a lossless or hi-res digital download copy of the new amazing-sounding MFiT remaster on Metallica's website store right now. See HERE

Ok cool. A lot of people don't know about the fixed digital version yet.

I want an official physical copy as well. Now that Blackened distributes the discs, we have to assume that the next printing of the CD will quietly be issued with the fixed master, right? I mean, why go through all the effort to fix the sound issues, and then simply keep using the much-maligned awful original mix in future printings of the disc?

Makes sense, but let's consider Metallica also released a double album last year and released the two boxes. Hopefully we get the box sets up until the s/t before 2018 ends.

Speaking of the "Blackened" releases....I'm digging them, personally. Didn't need em (most) all over again, but have been happy with the quality & sound.

Gentlemen, sorry for not reading the entire thread. What's the general consensus on the comparison of the DCC Gold and the 2016 remaster of RTL?
    Thank you!

Speaking in terms of "making them better," IMO Reload, SA, GI, and S&M sound amazing on the vinyl copies I have. Heck, Reload is one of the purest sounding records I own, I was a little blown away the first time I put it on. But, I do understand not everyone has or wants vinyl, but at least on that medium, there are plenty of stellar copies to pick from.

I'd love to get a physical release of Load (and yes I've tried the 45 RPM version, it doesn't sound good to me, and I do love that album) and DM. Otherwise, I'm pretty good. I might buy the MoP and Justice boxes, but opted for just the reissues of just the vinyl on RTL and KEA and they are outstanding for the price.
