Can anyone on the forum, or anywhere else for that matter, confirm or deny that UDCD-564 Robert Cray: Strong Persuader, UDCD-565 Tom Petty: Hard Promises, and UDCD-567 John Lee Hooker: The Healer was available on UD1 (Japan)? I know for sure that UDCD-566 does because I own it but have never before been able to confirm that these in fact do exist. Any help/advice is greatly appreciated and according to the Gold cd realm they do exist. (shrug)
Hi, Hey Dave, Strictly from memory (which constantly fails me ) my recall is that all of them were UD1's. Happy Huntin', Jeffrey
I think 567 The Healer was available as an UD1 and an UD2. It was some time in the early 90s every thing was moved to US production.
Guys, I've already done my homework on these by checking John Harps web page and supposedly they were released on both UD1 and UD2 but so far have only been able to confirm their existance on UD2. What I really need is for someone to say "yeah I own these on UD1". Thanks all the same for the effort.
Thanks mcow1, But no thanks. I have a big problem with sellers who want to charge me $5.00 for shipping when in reality it only costs $1.65. It's funny you noticed this one as there seems to be quite a large amount of them out there. Take my word on this one as I had to find out the hard way, twice. There appears to be a lot of this album wrapped and sealed in the wrong booklets and back panels. In other words they say UD1 on the back and booklet but are in fact UD2s. So I seriously doubt I'll ever buy another sealed MFSL Gold cd again as if it's not open, you never really know for sure. Both of mine came from reputable sellers. Thanks mate
Dave, I have had the same experience. It would seem that MFSL had some UD1 paper left over when they switched over production to the UD2 and figured that no one would notice and/or care. One cd I bought from Ebay was pictured as a UD1 but it came as a UD2. When questioned about this, the seller said he used a photo from one of the MFSL enthusiast websites, where it was pictured as a UD1. He also seemed confused as to why anyone would care about this. GRRRRRRRRR I would have gladly paid $5 shipping to a more careful (honest?) seller.
$5.00 postage is reasonable if the seller ships using priority mail and adds insurance; I also like the tracking to see how the shipment is progressing. I sell occasionally on Ebay and I won't ship stuff any other way. I've never had a problem with the post office damaging anything I've sent or had mailed to me using priority shipping. Sure, you can roll the dice with 4th class, but they treat that stuff rougher, and the possibility of extra poky movement is definitely there. I'd hate to have a nice item damaged due to saving a few cents...
I had an argument with an online retailer over this, Priority Mail boxes are FREE and you can mail about 4 discs in one box for less than $4. Crumpled newspaper is also cheap, and it could be agued that so am I. I should point out that the circumstances were that I bought two discs and this lady wanted $4 shipping for each disc and I knew they were going to combine the package. The seller refused to ship Priority saying she was losing money. Cost her $1.65 for postage and 69¢ for the bubble envelope.
I have had to overpay for shipping on Ebay a few times, usually because I didn't get the discount I thought I should have gotten on combined items. But let's keep our priorities straight. The number one thing is that the item is AS DESCRIBED. Shipping cost is secondary (unless the item is really cheap). Hey, I'm as cheap as the next guy, but even free shipping won't make up for an item that isn't as described. Here's how I deal with the whole shipping thing - I decide what my highest bid will be. Then I subtract the cost of shipping, of a money order, even the stamp to send the money order or check. That gives me my adjusted final bid amount. The more the seller charges for shipping, the less I bid.
My copy of Tom Petty Hard Promises (purchased from a major US wholesaler on the first day of release)is a UD1 manufactured in Japan.
Thanks Andy and dwmann for the 2 out of 3 confirmation on this post. I have yet to see these 3 that I speak of ever available on ebay in over 1 year of being on ebay myself. These are as rare as Huey Lewis: Sports UD2.
Dave, I'm kind of new to this forum (about 2 weeks), but it seems the consensus is that UD1 versions are preferable. Are you collecting UD1s and UD2s? Your comment about the rarity of Huey Lewis on UD2 suprised me. I wouldn't think anyone would know it WAS rare unless they were looking for it. Are some UD2s preferable? Also, I would have thought the UD1 version would be harder to find. What's up with this?
IMHO and a few others here as well the UD1 versions are prefereable as they do sound better than there UD2 counterparts, some by a whisper, some by a lot. I collect the albums that I like and a lot of them are UD1's but some are only available on UD2 such as Traffic. Yes the UD1's are harder to find, but well worth the wait IMHO. Hope this helps.
Robert Cray was a UDII only. I bought it when it first came out, it was a UD2. I have emailed John Harp to see if that is a typo in his web page listings. The other 2 you already found out about. :-jon
I sold a Mosaic set to a man in Argentina. He wanted it shipped FedEx overnight from Connecticut. It cost him $200, and he was pleased as could be!
